Hey Fellas,
I've been lurking here for a while and wanted to finally say hello and thanks for all the great advice and knowledge you all share on this site. I started cutting wood after I saw the price stores were charging for pecan wood for my bbq pit and it kind of snowballed from there. You know the story...family and friends know you have a saw and pretty soon your cutting trees and firewood for everyone. I don't complain though, I love doing it and my heating bill is always cheap.
I started out with a ex home depot rental Makita 6401 and wanted a bigger saw when I found out about a local tree guy was getting out of the business and selling off all their equipment. I got all the saws(except the makita) in the pics. The guy also threw in a bunch of bars, chains, 150 foot of brand new arbor-plex bull rope and a stihl handheld elecrtic sharpener.
Anyway, I don't need all these saws, just got a good deal for buying all at once and a few needed a little tlc. I was thinking about keeping 3(small medium and large) but's it's just too hard to figure out which ones to keep. What are your thoughts?

084- 150+ psi comp. Replaced chain tensioner. My back hurts looking just looking at this saw. Makes easy work of stumps and big live oaks though.
066- loaned out to bro for weekend(with pre-mixed gas, lol)- 150+ PSI comp. Will cut anything I need.
440- 150+ psi comp. Light and well balanced.
038 mag 2 - 155 psi comp. Replaces rim, av buffers, guide plate, honed cylinder and replaced rings. Torque monster, Un-Godly loud, neighbors hate me when I crank it up:)
Makita 6401- 155 psi comp. Has the best anti vibe of all. Probably the most comfortable to use all day.
MS310- 165 psi comp. Still has the tag on the front. Replaced cracked handle and air filter cover. Prior owner said that saw had 10-15 hours when an employee dropped it from bucket truck.
MS200T- haven't checked comp but it runs perfect. This saw is a little screamer.

Keep the 066 and the 044, give me the 084 for giving you such good advice and sell the others and buy a 50cc class saw (Dolmar 5100, Husky 346, or Stihl MS260)

Or better yet I could trade you a 026 for the 084 that way you can keep all your numbers straight. :D

Welcome to AS! You're a lucky man.... I wish I had all of those saws. I'll let someone more qualified recommend what to keep.....

If the 084 hurts your back too much, pack it up. I'd be glad to pay the shipping. I wouldn't want you to strain anything.

Sell the MS310 on Ebay for more than you paid, Keep everything else unless you're short on cash.

Virgin post. Welcome to the party:cheers:

Huh?

What's a matter with you? Keep em all!! And get some more!

The 440 is a very low power to weight ratio saw. You should sell it to me at a loss......

Seriously, if ya don't need the 084, keep the 066, 044, and ms200. those would be what I would keep, unless you had something like a 260/5100/346 for the small stuff. then I would get rid of the ms200.

If you really like the feel of the 6401 and wanted to do a huge shuffle. You could upgrade your 6401 to a 7900 and then do some housecleaning.

1) Sell the 044 to Steve. Also sell the MS310, 038 mag, and 084 unless you need it.
2) Buy yourself a 260, 346 or 5100 to fulfill the 50cc range.

Your resulting lineup would include the MS200T, MS260 or another 50cc model, Makita 7900, and the 066. This lineup should handle just about everything that comes your way.

I'm definitely going to sell the 310 since it's not regarded very highly by fellow AS members. I'll probably hang on to the rest until after hurricane season this year. A small fleet of saws can pay for themselves pretty quickly. :greenchainsaw:
2010 is scaring me also.

You need to keep all of them, you barely have enough to be an AS member!!!! How can you possibly get by with so few saws??? LOL

My saws are like my guns, I dont sell them unless i am upgrading to another one or two

instant collection, just add water.

like the man said. you could have avoided this whole mess by upgrading you 6401 to 7900.

my advice sign up on ebay and dump the ones you don want after running them. they will pay like 300 for one that was run over by a train on there.

all it has to do is say stihl on it.

Makita's aren't orange / white...so they must be junk. Seeing how I'm a junk collector and a really nice guy I'll pay the shipping and take your junk Makita off your hands.
