Ummmm...Harry, how the heck are you getting those quarter splits piled into that truck? I'm a 39 yr old big farm boy, and they make my back hurt looking at them.:yourock:

Note: truth be told, by day I am a computer dude, by night I am a farm boy. Grew up a farm boy.

1/4 splits? Those are nothing, it is the half splits that kill me! I loan my PU out to my ex boss at the county jail when he needs to haul something. He was over the other day and helped me unload. He asked the same question...as do I at times. They seem to be a lot heavier coming off than they were going on. I have had to resort to working one end of a half split up and then the other but that is rare. I have often wondered jus how much one of those mothers does weigh, maybe I'll check it with a bathroom scales.

Pictures deleted

Photobucket has gone totally bonkers. My 4th try at posting the current pic of the pile and it keeps brining up old pics that aren't even showing in photobucket anymore.

I finally tricked photobucket into giving me the right pics. Had to shift them into a new folder.

The pile after dumping the last load yesterday. Anyone for a splitting party?

I noticed that too, you had a load on it didn't ya turnkey?

Yes it was. Looking at that empty space in the rear it was tempting to add another chunk or two but then I reminded myself of my first real load. It had the full 4 ricks across plus a few 1/4 splits at the back. Even my housekeeper commented on how low the tailgate was.

That is all green, wet Willow and just by feel I think it weighs out at just about the same as green Black Locust. Of course once it dries, I toss rocks on top of the pile to keep it from floating off. ;)

I did weight one of the chunks this evening, 132 lbs. By that, my guess is that I am good for about 150 lb lifts.

I am still trying to convince myself to stay home and fool around splitting but I know better - it will be load up and go fall that next tree in the morning.

I just can't picture 30 cords of wood waiting to be burned. That has got to be nice to look at while drinking a beer and telling the neighbors, "nope I am not selling it, I need it."

Yep. I am picturing the guy I have sold 2 cord to for many a year. Cut him off this year, told him I can't supply him any more. I wonder what he thinks as he drives right by here every day and sees that new pile growing.

Still puzzled at how I managed to post two threads with the same title and different pictures.

I have been thinking... You didn't 'wimp out' you chose to work smarter .. not harder.. there is no shame in admitting that we need hydraulic help now and then let the 'purist' work for a couple hours on a couple of though splits.. while we sit back with a cold one ( or 2.. or 3...) after finishing them thoughies off. :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
