wow

I see they are over priced normal John Deer never the less I am a JD fan and like the Quality of my JD 4110 tractor. So I wonder if they stand behind the saws like they do the equipment.

efco

never heard of efco before.... Do you like the saw as much as a husky.?... think it will hold up? Where did you buy? how much? and where do you get parts?

sorry i ask so many questions... but this forum is awsome.

They have them at harvest equipment in Newport, possibly the one in Swanton Too. The weight seems ok, price is high for displacement and even up in to the 50+cc saws they use a horizontally split crankcase. this is like the plastic crank poulans or cheap husky and stihls. I have never run one but I have seen enough.

Here's the link to when I first got my 970: http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=30995&highlight=olympyk+970

The latest version of my saw is the Efco 171. I've never put any real time on another brand of saw of the same size, so I can't comment on a comparison with a Husky. I think it will hold up as good as any of the other well made saws on the market today. Like anything, it's how a guy maintains and looks after his saw (or any other piece of equipment). Some stuff is junk right from the box. As far as parts go, I have found a dealer about 45 mins. from me who can order parts - but it took a few phone calls, and looking on the web to find him.

Here's a recent picture of the 970 with a 24" bar and full skip round chisel chain (3/8", 0.050") on a approx. 32" diameter piece of Oak that was down for about 2 months. With the sharp chain, it did good:

olympyk--olympic--olympik--efco---emak---all the same co--they had to change their name over a period of time because of the olympic committees---!!!!!!!!!! said oly was using olympic name to sell saws---ya, right---idiots---dont know about now--but they are a quality built saw---

NEK VT--I have nothing against JD, but they are awfully proud of their stuff. I have the Cub Cadet version of the EFCO and it is great. Save yourself some money if you like the saw and find yourself an EFCO dealer (from their site). They are around, just maybe not as visible as the "orange" dealers. Even if you go "green" you will save on parts if you find the EFCO dealer. I have two within 25 miles or so. By the way, I really like their air cleaner system. I know that almost all the modern designs have improved that over the years, but it is really nice to know you don't have to clean the filter after running a half hour as I do with my old Husky, Stihl, and Mac.
