pdqdl seems to have a good idea but it would be nice to hear from experience on whether it's be good to have a grapple in storm country?

only if you bid FEMA cleanup at x $ per yard. usually $4-$9 yard or thereabouts.

or if you can REALLY hustle up other hauling sources, i.e. tree companies.

however, ice storms are not my forte, but they are basically just a lot less debris than a hurricane.

Well yes and no it will likely be good if you can get paid
each day or at least weekly but I cringe at the thought
of those fema contractors that pay 30 days from the
starting date beware my friend.

Actually, I was thinking of all the local tree services, lawn services, guys with chainsaws, and the homeowners themselves that swarm into the damaged areas. They can cut up the trees & haul them to the curb, but they lack the capacity to haul off all the huge piles of damaged trees.

The long term cleanup goes to the real tree services with buckets or climbers, but just after the storm, people just want to get rid of the mess. Then they wait for the storm chaser prices to go down.

At least that's how it goes in KC.

That I-44 corridor gets hammered twice as often as KC, and I'll bet the folks in those areas are pretty saavy.

Tackle tree helped and was a fine help we had some fun.

Rope: what equipment did you take; bucket, grapple, or both?

What kind of work are you finding? Other contractors, FEMA, Local Government, Utilities, or just door knocking?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Just took the bucket and laid down trees for local swamped help going futher north tomorrow with the bucket. No fema call me chicken but I prefer helping the locals.
I coulld probably find work knocking but really if someone is swamped and needing help
why bother imo. I have some pics when I get back home I will post but only took
one or two for now been too busy to take any more. Everyone stay safe

been here in KY all week. brutally cold, and climbing beats a bucket any day when its below zero with the wind chill. :D

to anybody not adept at traveling for work, stay home. this is not for the faint of heart, due to the economy and weather, hotel rooms are scarcer than the work, and ice is a ##### to work on. and it turns to mud this weekend.
but I'm making money.

Wife says I am addicted....

I borrowed a laptop with an aircard from a friend to take with me. We are in Sikeston, MO. Not much energy to get on here though. I just had a bucket truck and chipper. Chipper hasn't been started so far. There are folks chipping though. I have a couple jobs next week that need to be chipped. Work is not as easy as I thought to get. We are busy though.

that's how it was in Worcester Massachussetts.

right before Christmas.made some money but most of them socialists Libs were waiting for some from of government agency to come do it all for free.amazing what this country is coming to.

how much does one crew make a day? I see a lot of expense/risk involved with travelling hundreds of miles away staying in a hotel, leaving equipment in a parking lot overnight, etc

Always wanted to bring a crew and a few trucks to a big storm, but is it really worth it? Are you guys averaging atleast $4,000 a day?

if you are a residential tree company and have your days booked with full time work
its not worth leaving your regular customers. going after storm work cost a lot of money!!! some storms are a lot worse than others, i have had a gun in my face for 10 gal. of gas:dizzy: for me its not worth it. if my boss wanted to go and risk his money, pay for everything ,than i may go with
