Who splices their own rope?

Has anyone modified their splicing procedure for the 16 strand lines? I found using the splicing wand in its intended configuration proved more difficult than it needed to be. I found a way to use the outer SS "needle" as a conduit to run a length of 2.2mm zing it down. Then I pull out the needle and use the zing it to pull the cover past the crossover. Works like a charm.
