YES! Thats incredible...Id seen the article in Arborist News, but to see the video...wow! To bad it wasnt translated to english at the bottom so we knew what was being said.

Like I asked 'over there'.......whos next?

Man, that would be scary! How high up do you think he was? You have GOT TO trust your gear there! :)

*SHUDDERS* Wow, wouldnt' wanna take that fall! Although there was PROBABLY a safety net below him just in case his extra rope failed too....

Looks like he was belayed with the red rope. Also looks like his climbing rope wasn't long enough to make it with out switching ropes on the way up.

Not any crazier than some of the things you see now on Fear Factor without any backup rope.

Finding a rope that long isnt a problem.

I am suprised so many are perplexed why the tail was dropped.

When your FLing up a rope you must lift the tail slightly with one foot to get it to lock on the top of your other foot. After a coupla hundered feet the line starts getting mighty heavy as the tail gets longer and longer.

I am not sure how long the ascent was but assuming it was 500' then the rope weighs around 30-45 pounds.

It isnt hard to find a line 600 feet long, sherrill sells all there ropes in a 600 foot spool if you like, and normally you can talk to the manufactorer and they can run you a 1200' spool and sometimes a 2400' spool.

There wasnt a saftey net, I rope backup is all that is needed. A saftey net would be a Byotch to land on after a 200' fall, think about how high it would have to be off the ground to stretch enough to absorb your fall without hitting the ground beneth it.

I also didnt see a prusik which means that he held his weight the whole time. Hes a BA for sure.

no freakin way i know he had some kinda knot ..... blakes hitch ..... etc.. unless that was a 3 strand rope .... aint nobody gonna hold on to a sheathed line unless it was really fuzzy .... still for 100 metres it was way way fast i knew a guy who did 585 feet in a water fall in less than 20 mins ... but he was frogging .... the guy in the video is the international tree climbing 1st place winner .... i hear he runs a buisness where they actually collect seed from the top of trees ....wow that would be great ...... dark

that would make sense, i was wondering how he advanced his hitch past the knots joining the ropes

Exactly, no knot, wouldnt have passed.

Darkstar, the blakes hitch isnt very popular for FLing. Not to mention passing the knot over the attaching lines.

Yea he is the current world champ and yea he dose contract climb to collect seeds. The climb was 100m high and he did it as a dare on a German TV show, they bet he couldn't do it in under 6 minutes and he said he would do it in 5!!!!!!!!!!!! He just missed out. He had 4 sections of 25m rope which was released at each station, he didn't have prussic, just belayed.

You wana know how2 footlock, CHECK THAT TECHNIQUE OUT!

Not so long ago, I have been lucky enough to spend 3 full days in a climbing tutorial learning his techniques and tricks of the trade. The guy is an amazing climber, its his life thats why hes so good.

Footlocking on a double line is way easer as there is more surface area to make the lock also its easier to hold the rope on the pull up motion.
BUT the higher you get, the harder it is to pick up the rope with your feet. Footlocking less than 30 meters on a double line is sweet

Any1 keen to fall 100meters into a safety net? Don't think it would do much good haha
