Well Rocky could you please be quiet!!! Your not supose to tell every one that mine is the 'one-size-fits-all'. Ya know!! somebody may get mad that I'm so versitile, and that I'm the only one you need :D

yep

I think your right Rich. Any person with a little knowledge will buy the saw with more power but only weighs a little more just in case they are going to need a bigger saw. I think the saw companies recognized this a long time ago. :)

I think Brian nailed it in the context that you are talking Rich. Specialization of saws for arborists and their crews. Groundies don`t need/appreciate more weight, power, or expense in a saw yet those small saws(or 60cc`ers) aren`t best suited to acceptable production when felling and bucking, or flushing stumps.

Personal firewooders on the other hand live best in the land of 60cc saws. One size fits all at an acceptable pace and price point.

I generally concur with Brian.  I don't make my primary paycheck (usually) with a saw, and for quite a while I was more than happy to have just the 036.  It's a superb all-around saw.  I felt like I almost got into trouble once making the back cut on an ash and decided it would be good to also have a saw with bigger balls on the truck.  As it turns out, I got an 066 to augment it.  They're a very good pair, but an 026/046 (or equivalents) would make a better one for general use around these parts.  Live and learn...

I have been having the jones for a new saw for some time. I think that a 60cc saw would complemant my quiver well. The reason being that I can do almost all my firewooding with it, saving my 7900 for logging/ the stuff over 20" and keeping my 260g for softwood cleanup work at the lodge. I really could get away with only two as the 260/346 class saw is a little light for some of the firewood work I do, but it does come in handy for situations like I walked into this spring opening the lodge. Multiple trees on lines, lot of storm damage and nothing for 18" or so.
I can see where these 50cc saws do come in handy for arborists.

I have 50cc and 70 cc saws but no 60's. I want one bad but don't which one, I think if a 262xp comes along that would be my pick. Anyone got one to get rid of?

ive got an 962 efco .. its got 2 setups..
one 16 the other 20.. it handles both real well .. after i get my 026 back the 962 will start wearing the 20 inch setup..
while not as strong as the 372 ,,it will do well as a sub for either the 372 or 026..
with good chain it ll hold 9500-10.000 w 20 inch in cured hickory.... with 16 inch its just a just a bear..so i like it pretty good.

I use an 036 for logging pulp and virginia pine, which by the way I do try to avoid as it is a lot of work but sometimes it comes with the rest of the boundry:rolleyes:

Since I know everything about saws and timber, isn't the average woodtick better off with just an 026 or a 346 with a sharp chain and a bit of know how, as opposed to some self deluded tickmeister weilding a 372 he doesn't know how to use?
Or is just looking the part perhaps the " American Way", much like having several firearms strewn all over the house as if you were actually going to need them all or something like that. LOL

talk softly an carry a big stick..or what ever it is u need to get the job done..
im real proud to be an american.
the only civilization i ever heard of that fought a war amongst themselves to free an oppressed enslaved minority..
.. the country that in the end,, was the only thing standing between world domination by tyrants and freedom ,thru out the the 20th century..
started by a few good men ,,who had enough wisdom to know that the real threat,, would always be absolute power ..[which always corrupts in the end..]
by any government.. and so included in her foundation
a provision that ensure the rite for each citizen to keep arms..
a country which has, in my opinion had
the benefit of an great nation,, canada that guarded our nothern borders.sorry folks,, for the serious up,, but we talkin something real near an dear to me.:)

I'm sorry but anybody that knows me knows I like doing the least amount of work I can do. For instance I see a varmit in the yard, do you think its going to wait for me to goto the other end of the house pick up my toy come back and inject it with Pb?? (Lead) NO! So pick up toy next to you point and inject Pb. Same goes for the saws.... I could cut wood all day with my 021 stroker or be done in 3 sec. or less on the same three cuts. Hence more time to sit and shoot the ****.

ditto on the firearms comments
ever notice that when someone is not allowed to own an object, it suddenly becomes uncool or laughble to own said object?

Too bad Canada doesn't trust canadians with firearms
Says something about the people (AKA sheeple) up north, eh?

About saws though, I like my 036, makes a good woodbuster on the top while the 46 and 66 are making short work of the base.
29 is good for leaving next to the chipper to cut the occasional wide angle, but we rarely use it for busting logs with.
