Why does the MS 880 have a nut recess on the clutch cover?

I was watching Human and saw a little indent on the cover.

This is the video:

Here are some closeups and parts diagrams:

in yer sploded view #14 attaches #13 via a nut that is captured in that hexagonal hole, the Dogs are held on in a similar manner.
Watch the video where.he takes it apart..there is nothing there. Could it go on one of STIHL'S sawmills? Betcha didn't know that they made those at one point in Europe.

I never noticed that on my 880, i wonder if it has it on my 881?

A small stud in there would give a broken chain something to wrap around on. Like an inboard chain catcher of sorts.

PSA: don't paint your saw plastics. If you must change the color, they need to be dyed.

Talking here in red? I dont think I ever seen anything there before.

All my 84 88 and even G888 clone copy of the last MS880 had double spikes with chain catcher between spikes.

Yes- there is an alloy chain catch available to sit in that square section- come down and right angle towards the crankcase. Bolt through from the inside- nyloc nut on the outside in the hex pocket.

Phew. Good to know.
