We have a maple tree we planted 4 years ago. It has been doing really well and growing very nicely. This spring/summer though I noticed that bark was starting to pull away. Yesterday I found that it has gotten just awful. The tree looks healthy overall but won't this loss of bark kill it soon? What could have caused this? It seems to have developed a 'split' in the side in the last year or two but would that cause the bark problem?
Thanks,
Rob
