If its anything like what I've seen, the older guys that don't have a mortgage at todays rates and vehicle costs and child care costs allow them to work these tough jobs low paying wages as opposed to younger people that have all thge expenses of today and thus need a better wage to do the hard work. Any idea what these guys make annually?

My brother just bought a cable skidder, so not all the fallers are gone. The only time I don't fell trees with a chainsaw is when I am running my skidsteer with my tree shear, but thats more landclearing than logging. When the bank comes calling you'll see the handfaller back at work.
Hey Cape, you know who else can roll like that, the Amish. They are doing some falling around here. Stuff keeps going the way it's going I will be Amish soon, I think they had it right the whole time, good people.

Nailsbeats, You go be amish. Cashton area where I grew up. I left when I was eighteen. It looks good but not where I grew up the strictest of them all.The biggest thing I miss is the family. I can drive four times faster then I did back then. It would take half a day to cut a notch and backcut in a big tree wih the cross cut. Try it but I will keep my car and chainsaws. What area do you live in?
