Does anyone know if a worm gear drive type winch can be mounted up side down, and still lubricate?

That's a general question. A general answer is; the worm should always be in oil. However, it is possible that the manufacturer could have designed the winch so the worm always gets enough oil then it doesn't matter.

You're correct. I was in a hurry when I posted. This winch is still dirty, but does not appear to have a breather plug. Might it turn over, (easier application and mounting) and work with a reasonable life? Is the correct amount of oil, equate to the correct amount of oil up side down?

Thanks,
