What is the windiest you will prune or remove medium to tall trees (over 30-40 ft) before packing it in?:dizzy:

10-15 bout scares me enuff. After standing in 90 foot pines all day I need some dramine. I'm not sure if it works , I've never taken the motion sickness pill.

We don't work arial when the wind is over about 20 mph, I always keep an eye on the west central wind gauge (30 foot power pole with a 1/2" logging chain tied to the top of it, if the chain isn't horizontal, it's not windy:laugh: ) We work with a lot of mature poplars that have numerous problems, I'll take them on, without the help of mother nature!!!

Our normal winds are 10-20 mph. It is very seldom we have a windless day. I have pruned 50-60 ft. tall coconut palms in 25 mph winds. Not fun, but when you have a street permit for only 2 days in a certain area, you just gotta do it.

You probably wouldnt believe me but I was dismantling a gum in 120kmph plus (70mph) winds on the 3rd of january. The winds were uprooting the tree which was going to fall on a 2 week old house. The winds got up to 165kmph plus in gusts later that night in some places. This city is VERY windy. Not unusual to work in winds other cities would consider extreme.

Not a smart thing to do and I wouldnt let anyone else attempt it. I just had to take down the canopy so it wouldnt be beaten so hard. Saved her house, saved me thinking all night whether it was going to be alright.

for regular, run-of-the-mill work I usually don't work if it's over 20 mph. Emergency work is a different story. Sucks trying to aim your brush when it's landing 30-40 feet away from the tree.

I have a job lined up for this saturday but acuweather says some real strong winds here. Winds from the NW at 26 mph and gusts up to 45 mph, I may reschedual. While its only one large limb off an oak it is right over the house. Hope the customer understands.

20 mph for normal work

but we do alot of 911 stuff and have worked in wind over 60mph but we have the cust sine wavers

Hey TimberMcPerson that is above and beyond the call of duty. Hope you had some fresh underwear waiting for when you descended.:dizzy:

I was taking down a big dead cottonwood for Stumper a few weeks ago and it was a little breezy in the morning, but around noon the winds really started kickin I would say gusts up to 50mph. I wanted to get this job done, but I was tied into another cottonwood next to the one I was taking down, and it kept pulling, and throwing me all over the place. Kinda a spooky feeling, especially when I looked down and saw big chunks of bark being blown off the tree I was in. Needless to say we threw in the towell on that one and went and trimmed a good sized Box Elder. The next day we got the rest of that cottonwood down in just a couple hours. Generally speaking I dont like climbing when the wind is 25mph or more. I hate that feeling of getting tossed around like a rag doll.

WOOOHOOO!!!!! Acuweather (what an oxymoron) just pushed back the heavy winds till late Saturday afternoon, I may be able to work after all. I agree that anything over about 20-25 mph is just not worth it. Now I just hope the weather doesn't change again.

I did a cottonwood from hell yestrday, wind up to around 25-30. I hate that. No more. Customer will have to wait.

This sucker was half dead standing, bark was falling from the tree as I climbed it. You all know the feeling...I'm thinking....maybe a job in an office with lot's of office chicks.........Nah. BTW I was a computer hot shot for a decade before I went back into the tree care business....I sure miss the office girls. LOL.

I live on the West Side, right on the edge of Manitou Springs. Garden of the Gods is my backyard.

It was windy as hell here yesterday. I was thinking to my self. " Self, Im glad Im not climbing today."

Oh yeah I remember that one, An ash blew over Colorado and 14th, We rolled up as the cops were trying to drag some of the brush off. Being the good citizen that I am, I grabbed the 440 and commenced to clearing the street. There was a reporter from the Gazzette that got a picture of me cutting up that tree while a cop was dragging brush to the side walk. I was wanting to get that pic to post on here, but they didnt have it on the news paper web site, just that pic of me in the News paper.

I made the news that night also, a 80 foot spruce fell on a house. News 4 showed a short blip. The people on this board really helped me out on that one, I had done a lot of removals....none quite like this. The tree branches were poking into several rooms of the house. Egads.
