Hi, new to the forum. Looking to expand knowledge base. Starting with the tree in the pic.

Windblown, rootplate lift and nicely stuck in the tree next to it. Is it a case of if I don't already know what to do, don't try anything, or gain some advice and give it a go??

I would guess getting a line up high and just pulling it to the left would do it? If a line, winch is not available? Is there any cut that would bring this down? Maybe a standard gob and hinge set, then gradually take the hinge out from the right side, making it pivot away left? Iv done that on smaller trees but not with root lift?

Or do you just leave the saw in the van and pull it down? I'm a greenkeeper by trade and do felling as and when it's needed, so not all the time. Many thanks

Is there access for machinery to get in there?
Is dropping some of the other trees an option?
Plenty of room for machinery. We have a JCB telehandler and tractors. Little chance any other trees can come out.

In that case I'd make use of the machinery you have & either push or pull it over.
You could use the telehandler to set a line high enough to pull it over if you have a decent enough rope or chain, or (if it's big enough & you can get it in behind it) possibly even just push it over. If you go that route don’t captivate the tree between the forks or things might go horribly wrong if the tree decides it wants to go sideways

I might would go a different route, do your back cut first on the tree and drive wedges in first and then do a face cut leaving a little hinge then hook the tractor up with a chain or rope long enough to be safe, placing it in the face cut and pull it backwards It should break the hinge and free the tree from the stump then you can hook to the tree and pull it out.

If you have a stout enough line I'd set it about 30ft. up the trunk and just pull it over pulling just opposite of it's lean.

It looks like it will pull clear.

Hey..thanks all for your advice. It came down with a good shove from the telehandler. There was no rope good enough or chain long enough to pull.

Just for future ref. If nothing was available other than a saw. How would you go about taking it down? Iv read about a face cut on the opposite side of lean, high up, then back cut from the leaning side.. It should.make the hinge collapse the tree off the stump on the lean side and dislodge the top. Repeat if it doesn't. Basically making the tree shorter each time untill it goes? Ever heard of this?

That's a thing, but in this situation it looks like you'd probably end up with a more vertical tree that's still hung up.
Given only a saw I'd be dropping the tree its hung up in... & possibly another tree to ensure that one doesn't get hung up too

Yep, done it many times, only problem is sooner or later you end up with the tree standing upright with no place to jump cut. Sometimes the tree will come down before that happens that is the reason I always carried a endless rope puller if it didn't.
