Does the 7900 come in a winter model?? Snow is right around the corner and I want to be ready.

I was wondering if anyone is aware if the 7900 will keep up with the 385? Ed said yes, but Ken says, "oh bullsh!t". So I was wondering if anyone has had any practical experience in this dept., like actually cut more than a few cords of peckerpoles with the aforementioned clubs?
Ken, I heard the Sugar Pine in Calif. is 40% softer than our Eastern White Pine, so this could be a factor in your findings. Did my finger ports ship yet?
John

Gypo,
Even Ken says my 7900 will out cut your 385 as long as i am running it,

When Hunter comes up i will get him to bring his 7900 and we will compare the 2 , his has lots of time on the motor now.

or when you get your 7900 , i should have it finished and ran by this week, you can answer that ? yourself.

well off to the Doc again , i think this is the 50 th time this week ,
i know if they take any more blood they will not have to worry about figuring it out

I don't know when Dolmar will have heated handles on the 7900 but the standard stock saw has a vent for introducing heated air to the carb in cold weather. I never have had a heated handle saw. If it is cold I wear gloves. If it is hot I wear gloves. What a concept.;)

The 7900 is not available with heated handles but the parts are available to convert the saw to a heated handle configuration. I will look up the individual numbers needed and post them as soon as i can gain access to our computer system again. The other system is down today for some maintenance and should running again today or tomorrow morning at the latest.

Terry

There is a cold weather nylon air filter available already. Part number 038 173 010.

Heated handles

What does a handle heating kit do? Do they have some kind of electric heater or just run some exhaust gas through the handle?

The handles are heated electrically from a generator coil that goes inside the flywheel.
To convert the 64-73 and 79cc saws over to a heated handle system the following parts are needed.
038310030 - Handle
038114070 - Fuel Tank
975001250 - Switch
038111160 - Crankcase
038148020 - Generator Coil
038146030 - Insulating cap
038148000 - Flywheel
038143040 - Ignition Coil
970311570 - Ground Cable

It is not an inexpensive process as you can see from the list of parts needed.

Yeah, until Dolmar gets with the program and offers a cold weather saw, you would be better off with a Husky or Stihl that is winterized from the factory.

This is just my opinion, but if Dolmar wants to be a player in the US saw market, they`d better start offering what the US market wants, for example; heated handles and carbs, a "hot" 50cc saw, and easy access to a brick and mortar dealer.

Some good national advertising by Dolmar and some generous co-operative regional advertising would help entice new dealers and customers alike.

The Dolmar saws have a very simple and VERY INEXPENSIVE heated carburetor feature. It comes with EVERY current model made by Dolmar. The 7900 has a baffle inside the air filter hood that when turned over provides warm air to the carburetor for winter months.

Just throw one of those chemical handwarmers into the airbox and you'll be good
I suppose you could do that, but I ran my 7900 for 3- 5 days a week for the entire month of January this last winter. The temperature many times didnt get above 5 above and I never had a problem with my non heated saw. I in fact never even flipped the winter carb plate over as it makes the filter get dirty faster.

if Dolmar wants to be a player in the US saw market, they`d better start offering a "hot" 50cc saw

Here is a picture of the Hot 50cc Chain Saw

The Dolmar PS-5000

The PS 5000 is a very pretty saw and I'm ready to buy. The problem is I'm just finishing up another firewood season without the mid size dolmar I was supposed to own this time last year.

Does anyone have any information if they are available? I've researched the vaults and havn't come up with a definitive answer. My patience is waning. If Dolmar doesn't have the saw available by New Years, I'm not going to purchase it regardless how well it performs.

I'm with ya! My patience has reached the end with the "new" Dolmar. It will be an antique before it's available in the U.S.And its "stellar performance" won't likely make it to the states un-diluted either, it supossedly is having a hard time passing E.P.A standards.

Who cares aboutheated handles? When are these fruitcakes gonna get full wraps for the 7900, not really a usable falling saw till then.

Please explain about the full wrap handle. Here it is called a "west coast" handle. How does holding the saw bar-side-high improve felling?
