Its great coming in from snow blowing or some other long cold winter job and I am soaked and freezing and I can stand next to the stove and warm up. You can't do that with a conventional heating system. I also like being able to hang wet coats, gloves, boots, etc in the stove room to dry, they dry fast!

People always think that I am crazy in the winter because I never(should say seldom) wear a coat when I am going from the house to the car, car to store etc.

Too damn funny you should mention that, I have a friend that never wears a coat to work. Never has on anything more than a t-shirt to and from his truck, even when the temp is zero and the wind is blowing. I can never figure out why he does this and he won't talk about it when I query him.

Can you explain it? I realize you won't freeze to death in the short time it takes to get to the truck and get the heater going, but what if you break down and are forced to walk a few miles!

I would walk fast!

"What'll you have Normie?"
"Well, I'm in a gambling mood Sammy. I'll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap."
"Looks like beer, Norm."
"Call me Mister Lucky."

"What's going on Mr. Peterson?"
"A flashing sign in my gut that says, 'Insert beer here.'"

and the best one yet...

"Can I pour you a beer Mr. Peterson?"
"A little early isn't it, Woody?"
"For a beer?"
"No, for stupid questions."

Of course i have dry for 14 yrs now but I trust the rest of you fellows and ladies will have one for me this winter? ;)

Heating with wood connects the user to what the environment is doing temperature wise. Way too many people, IMO, have little more connection to the weather than the walk to and from their vehicles a couple of times per day........ they never go outside for more than 60 seconds!

A wood burner is much more likely to know the temperature swings in their local area.
+1! Can you believe that my neighbor across the street has a mailbox that is only 50' from the house yet he drives his SUV to the mailbox to both pick up and deliver his mail? I have never seen this couple in their front yard nor have I ever seen them walk together around the block. I have also never seen him take a walk outside anywhere except to drop off or retrieve his trash barrel.

Are these people and others like them really alive?

I like the fact that I get to give less of my money to those thieving SOB's at the oil companies!!!!!!!!
