My motto with wood for the last several years has simply been "just cut it so that it can go on the truck, and then drop it as close to the job as possible." I don't sell firewood, because of several reasons, one of which being that I rent storage space. This year I've run into several problems with disposing of wood. One being some of the people who I have been giving free wood to have been asking me to come back and cut it up for free... not something I want to do. A few asked me to come and take the wood back...too much, too big, etc. I walked away from those. The other problem of course has been, people by the end of the year are full of wood and can't take anymore. I still manage to find places, but it's a PITA. I had a couple of guys who would come to the jobsites and take wood... which was VERY nice, however a few of them proved to be unreliable, 1 wound up being in cahoots with one of my so-called competitors, and the biggest and best wood scrounger just bought a new house and stopped burning wood.

I'm wondering how to deal with these issues, if maybe I should really start looking into selling wood, not so much for a profit center, because I know I won't make much (if anything) but simply as a way to reduce the BS involved with disposing of wood.

A lot of people think free wood means cut and split and some even want it stacked behind the house, I usually don't have a problem getting rid of wood, I have several places and I have put ads on craigslist before and made it very clear to what they will be getting...

That's where I'm getting. I've got one good guy who always has cash in hand for a quick drop off but he can't handle everything I have. We've tried craigslist with a few good hits but for the most part we end up just trucking it back to our lot which seems to be getting smaller by the day.

It's part of the job, I'm always looking for places to dump chips and logs.
