If I could build tomorrow I think I'd go with an OWB an in floor hot water heat. Warm floors are very nice, can also take care of your DHW. Future barn or garage and run another zone from your OWB and you have heat there also.

A mini-split heat pump is perfect for room additions, where extending or installing distribution ductwork is not feasible. In our home, we also have the mini splits ductless air conditioner as it also allows the significant reduction in home cooling cost. It is very important to maintain both the units with the help of the professionals like ductless AC repair NJ to ensure the comfortable environment in our home.

I'm in the process of possibly building my house this coming summer. I want to use wood to heat it. House is going to be 860 t0 960 sq. ft. R-21 in the walls R-38+ in the attic. How do you suggest to heat it? Just a stove in the basement for now? If not a stove an OWB? I'd prefer to stick with hot water over hot air.
Small house will be easy on heat.
But R38 in the ceiling? Really? Way too little insulation I'd say(as an Architectural designer)
I'd have R50 in all my ceilings up here where we live and R24 in walls and make sure a Very good air barrier(good Tyvek job)
Also don't cheap out on windows. Get zone 3 ones (triple glaze)
I would heat with wood if you enjoy it.
Can't beat wood when the power is out or for shoulder seasons. Plus it's fun and good exercise to cut and stack wood.
