alright so my question is. I have 2 60ft fence lines stacked with wood and I also have a wood shed that’s 8’x8’x8’ filled with wood. Open sides and front with a clear plastic roof for sun exposure. In your opinion is it going to be better use the wood in shed with No exposure to any rain and snow or better to use the wood stacked along the fence line that is uncovered. But we’re cut and split at the same time

I would use the Fenceline first because it’s had more exposure to wind and sun.

But the only reason I would do this is because I bring a little more than a weeks worth of wood into my basement at a time to dry up even more with a dehumidifier down there.

If you don’t plan on bringing wood into a covered area ahead of time I would use the wood in your shed.

I put my wood in the wood shed to use that year and the other stuff stays outside until the next year when it goes in the wood shed. That's the point of the wood shed. I didnt read anything about using one before the other but typically I use the better wood in the winter and the junky stuff in the fall. Usually once it freezes for good the wood stays dry outside. So in your case maybe use the wood shed wood until the other stuff is cold enough to not see any rain. Seems like after a few winters you will figure out the best system.

I would use the fence wood first. It's probably the driest and it will become the wettest when winter comes rolling in. Saving the shed wood thats covered for when everything has gotten wet. It will also give the shed wood more time to dry.

Not going to get all that wet when it's froze. The bit of snow that is stuck to it when brought in melts off pretty quick.

A decent moisture meter is your go to tool the 4 prong non Chicom "jobbies"optimum reading is 16% but anything South of 20% & your'e good to go if your wood in the open is within the limits use that as the shed wood should be OK during /after wet /snowy periods & you will be only handling once if you use the shed wood you will have to replenish from the out door stack & wait for it to dry

Any chance you can top cover some fence line wood now that you anticipate needing this season? Nice to bring in dry splits no matter where they come from! Works for me.
