The utility company came by this winter and cleared the entire right of way of trees. They used to only keep 100 foot clear - but have now come in and cleared the entire 150 feet. They have probably cut down 200 trees on my property and a lot of that was locust and will make nice fence posts - but I do have a huge amount of firewood to store for the next 3-5 years.
I have some scraps of roofing and some lumber left over from building a house and garage and I can build a roof for little or no cost, and I have attached a photo of one that I just completed and have filled up with wood that is holding about 3.5 chords. I sprayed the ground with a termite preventative, then put left over roofing underlayment on the ground to keep the moisture from the ground out, then put down pressure treated wood and put old pallets on top of that. This shed is located just at the edge of the woods and is completely filled up as of last night.
Next I am going to build a 16' square roof in another location using the same system of vapor barrier and old pallets for a floor - however I believe I will put some metal fencing between the posts along the sides to keep the wood from spilling out when stacked.
I would like to put this new shed in the woods so that it is out of site and not out in plain view - as I don't expect it to be very attractive. The woods are large mature trees and it will get plenty of air flow as the branches are up high, but it will get little sunlight. Has anyone done this and can comment on the ability of the wood to dry without rotting.
