Evening, is there a thread in here for wood stoves? I have some questions about my model 91

I think the cat needs replaced. Have to baby it to get it to run 800°. Used to run 1200-1400 all day long. Almost like the cat is clogged. Stove is 30 years old or so. I was hoping to find so eone who has replaced theirs and good tell me the tricks.

You must have a Catalyst temp probe? Your Cat can be removed and blown out gently with a can of computer keyboard compressed air. A normal air compressor is really too much pressure even turned down.
If you can easily access the face of your Cat it can be gently brushed and vacuumed with a soft bristle brush and shop-vac.
Depending on condition your Cat can also take a bath in 50% white vinegar and 50% distilled water. After several hrs it can be rinsed off with distilled water. Air dry, re-install with new gasket (if gasket is required). Run it.
Honestly it's a decent bet your Cat could be dying if it's rather old. I just changed two. One was only 2 years old and was doing the same thing as yours. Junk. The other was physically crumbling apart from idiots opening the loading door without bypassing the Cat first. It was 5 years old. Junk.
Anywho I went through MidwestHearth.com for these replacements. Working fantastic. Considerably cheaper option than going through a dealer. Worth checking to see if they offer your model Cat. Good luck.

Thanks a lot for the info. I've got a new cat and gaskets. Just waiting for a few days over 50 to cool it down and change.

May as well give your loading door gasket, glass gasket, and if it has one the bypass gasket a very close inspection. Leaky gaskets are tough on new Cats. Cool room air is no good. Food for thought.
Let us know how this works out.
