Was on the jobsite at 8, left at 4, lots of moving alturna-mat and shuffling the bucket around. Was completely soaked by 9, went through 4 gallons of water. Good times! :bang:

Normally I would have something smart to say but extended periods of heat in the triple digits in New England is dangerous. People aren't used to it like we are here, nor are they equipped. Lots of folks with no AC there. Drink lots of water and check on your elderly. We set up shelters for the elderly here when the heat gets really bad.

!

I have got to give you guys props for doing this day in and day out in all weather conditions. I just play with this landscaping/treework stuff on the side so I usually have some flexibility when I do my jobs.
But not today... Had a Police detail lined up and they are starting to excavate for a new bridge tomorrow so we had to go. The morning started off great when we blew a tire getting on 95 at 5:45am with no spare. Some how we got on site 45min late at 7:45. Took down 3 nasty Pin Oaks and up branched 5 others.
I was going to visit my inlaws and jump in their pool but just am just to fried. I never thought I would be so excited to go back to office work tomorrow!

Good post MD, as a matter of fact we do have shelters set up and running and news constantly reminding to check on elderly

Temp hit 101 today at my shop, changed oil, air/fuel/oil/filters and greased the chipper, sharpened some chains. Went and looked at a couple jobs. Got everything ready for tomms clearing job....should be interesting gotta remove 37 trees nothing big alot of 20/30 footers. Only one needs climbed.
Mainly stayed out of the heat for the most part...Guess I'll make up for it tomm.

Not sure how hot it was in Indiana today... but it was definitely hot... left flip flops on the top of my car at the shop, they melted...

Hey guys, Just remember to start drinking atleast 12hrs before starting work, and if you dont pee 1 time an hour you are already dehydrated. I have had 2 heat strokes, and yes I missed all the warning signs( cramps, Lightheaded, the shakes, nausea) You would think as a FF/Medic I would notice those things. The last time I had to get 4000 cc of fluid and it still took 2 hrs to pee. My core temp was 104 for over 8hrs in the ER. It sucks! Just a note though, a recent study showed that drinking chocolate milk afterwards replaces vitamins, electrolytes ect faster and with less sugar then a big bottle of gatorade. Its just the thought of drinking milk after a hot day that makes me dry heave. Be safe and drink lots. Its got to get cooler at some point.

100 degrees in Stamford today. worse than yesterday.

I guess it was about the same here. It seemed a little better.. less shocking than the first day maybe is all. We had some nice days last week to work, and than all the sudden this.. I came in early sinse we're only working about a quarter mile from the shop.

Saw a bank thermometer... 101.

My groundy was VERY happy today. We started the day by pruning a crabapple, river birch, japanese maple, and kousa dogwood, just threw everything in the back of the truck. Then we went to another house and cut down a black birch which just needed a rope placed in it to lower whole. Wood stayed in a pile, and there was about a green bucket worth of branches which went in the truck. Finished by 12:00. Went fishing off the dock in back of the lady's house for 2 hrs, had lunch, caught 5 fish. Stopped for ice cream on the way home.

I like it when you bourgeois spoiled-rotten climbers are nice to your groundmen.

I'm curious, do you change the way you dress for work depending on the weather? I tend to wear the exact same thing all the time. Carhartt pants, company t-shirt, and a pair of J.B. Goodhue work boots with two pairs of wool socks.

The thing with the footwear is something I read in a book about Russian soldiers. The guy said they wear the same boots and socks whether it's +30 or -30. It works for me, I'm always comfortable like that. My climber thinks I'm crazy, but he's got that sweaty feet thing happening.

I worked in Brighton today. Medium size maple. Today was tit compared to the last two. Plenty of water on site, and plenty of breaks. no time to take days off!

Yer living in the wrong part of Canada-mid 70s/24C and low humidity here. Cooled off into the 50s last night! Aside from no provincial sales tax, this is another thing I do not miss about the east at all.

I do remember being a groundie in Ottawa one summer's day, and driving to the Beach at noon-peeled off my chain saw pants and jumped right in. My underwear sort of looked like a bathing suit!

I do enjoy wearing sandals or sneakers when not at work, but otherwise choice of footwear tends to stay constant regardless of temp. Sort of got used to that in the Army I suppose.

90+ with humidity that was like being covered with a hot wet blanket.

But there was a breeze most of the day and that saved our bacon.

Not to mention all that pollution being blown up from Ontario and the Ohio Valley. Gotta love the blue skies here!

Sure beats the 50C/122F I was enduring this time last year in Kandahar!
