work is very slow for us too. iv been looking for work just to get by i am a married with 1 4year old son and my wife is giving birth in 4 weeks. i am a awsome employee and must work 5 days a week. i save all year for winter and this year is the worst its ever been. i hade to take my son out of pre-school cut our food bill down stoped maintaining our vehicels my oil bill is $600-$700 a month!!! and that is only one of many bill i have. i dont know how a man like me can make it in around here. top pay around here is max 25per hr at a real company. thats a :censored: joke!!!! ill get a big tree down in 1-2hrs for the most part, ther has been some that took all day but its unusal.i work for a hack and fri we made 3400 cash 4 man team with a kobota. 13hrs and 40 some trees, 36 came down. i made 300 and was happy.

As far as wood prices go... last year was a good year to be selling firewood. This year it seems as though everybody is trying to cash in, thus lowering the prices. A bunch have sold out already... so the demand is there, just the suppliers aren't getting what they should be. As we all know, firewood is a lot of work with little return.

Doesn't sound that good guys, lots of work here now, with the pine beetle epidemic and the fear that was put into people from last years nasty storms. But things can change, when all those tres are cut down, then what, maybe the long spoken of recession is here.

I understand what you mean there, I only made $15.50 an hour in line clearance but I still lived OK, I don't have many bills and don't do drugs so it was OK but I refuse to do it again, It didn't hurt my feelings much when they laid us off, that was my excuse to the wife to spend money on equipment that I needed to get started. When I am doing good for myself I'll remember how ####ty I was treated and try to treat my guys well, if they are happy they'll make me happy.

if you get $25/hr,, 8/day,,times 52,,= $52,000 ... thats not too shabby...add medical, holidays and vacation....not all that bad....add 10hrs/wk OT = $20,000.....you might not make your money,,, but its a steady income....

52 is ok but after tax, med, and all the other crap you will be left with crap. dont forget about rain days. your #s dont add up but make a good sales pich for a no brainer. how about climber gets 20% of all jobs they complete. or climber gets min wage on the book and cash till 300 per day. that way im coverd on the books got ins pay my tax work steady and still can afford to support my family.

My residential work always slows down around Thanksgiving untill tax returns start coming in. Been like this for as long as I can remember. Was like that in Texas and is the same in Pa. I'm doing Line Clearance full time now. Pays the bills thru the slow times. $21.40hrly 40 a week + any storm work which is time an half or double. Bringin' in about 44k a year before taxes. It's sh@t pay but pays the bills. Still doing minimal res. estimates. Just landed a removal for 400. Gonna take 2 hrs. Also bid on prunning 5 apple trees and removing two. nothin big so I put 300. Gonna give an estimate on removing three bull pines tomorrow. Drop and leave the brush and wood. Times are rough this time of year:bang: . Normally go Higher and if the customer complains about price I tell them that 9 times out of 10 when you pay a really cheap price you get REALLY cheap work. You pay for the quality. Some though just don't want to hear it. Wish ALL of you guys the best. Next year I'm gonna sell firewood. Gotta find out goin rates up here.

Phone started ringing today

Temp was in the 70s Monday and finally the tree phone started ringing. I'm glad to, picked up 3 jobs yesterday and got 6 flashing on the VMail. Nice to put in a fulls day work, heck I'm tired, the old tree legs are a little out of shape.opcorn:

pay rate for climbers

I can see it from both sides being that i worked for people.Most people i have worked for not really that decent.One guy never happy i worked for.Sucked going to work for some one like that its a drag.Now i own my own business i know what it is to work hard.I run my business get work done have decent day no screaming if i have to feel there is problem that cant be solved then its time to say good bye to that person.Being an owner now i see ups and downs being on the owner side.25 an hour is decent wage for some one decent.If some one is good,safe easy to get along with i dont mind paying 300 for day.But some times if its a small job then have to compromise.I worked for a guy that never climbed was a real jack ass he did not understand how difficult bigger trees can be just wants it done lickidly split.You can tell he is a slave driver type even when you worked hard faster to get it done why did it take so long FU stupid a##hole.Treat people how you want to be treated.Safety to me is most important so what if it takes extra hour or 2 cost more for a f###up.Keep working safe every one
