but after barrel rolling my new go kart/dune buggy mix six times my left shoulder is done for awhile. messed something up when i rolled and hit the shoulder belt. also have a nice bruise across the stomach and some sore ribs, i would guess a speed of 30 mph when i was turning and dropped the rear passenger wheel in a badger hole, did that saturday and still feeling it today. neck is also sore presumably from tumbling around like a pair of pants in a dryer. havent went to doctor yet will see how i feel in a few days

am pretty bummed this has potential to severely hamper not only my splitting progress but also my weightlifting and football training progress, oh well at least i lived to swing another maul

Hey there, friend, glad you are relatively ok. Could have been worse. I workout football players and I encourage you to get that shoulder looked at asap. The thing about shoulders is that it's easy to turn a small ache into a chronic injury. Often, if you get on top of an injured shoulder, a week or two of rest and pt can prevent months of pain and more pt. Good luck!

Ok, I've got to ask... can't say I've heard rest and PT go together as they are kind of opposites!

Fair question. Rest means not doing things that are bound to aggrevate the injury. Especially for an athlete, that would mean curtailing much of their training. Most pt for acute injuries is specific, short-term, and done in small measures.

Just swing it without coming down hard on impact. Or swing it over the other shoulder. I use an 8 lb maul. Smaller ones do not feel right to me.

If you do have serious injury, the longer you wait to get it fixed, the less effective the fix may be or the healing process will take longer. Ligaments will get frayed and more difficult to re-attach. Unless you have no choice, get to a Dr. soon.
I also don't agree with PT until you know whether or not there is damage. It can help strengthen what's left but can't heal what might be torn. IMO, I want to know how badly something is broken before I try to fix it.
