I found a Homelite XP1020Auto recently at a local auction. It is all original and all there. The piston is frozen. I pulled the muffler and what one can see of the cylinder wall looks very good, bright and smooth. I put some mix and penetrating oil in the cylinder and am letting it set for awhile.

Before I get serious about tearing it down, I would like to see a service manual for the XP1020Auto. Can anyone tell me if there are service manuals online for viewing or where one might be available?

The serial # of this saw is 2380247. Is there a website online that will give the date of manufacture of this saw?

I sure would like to get the old thing running for a companion saw to my C5.
I have 4 old Homeys all running great except for the XP1020Auto. Would like to hear it roar.

Thanks for any help.

The 1020 was last made in the mid to late 1960's. Haven't seen an IPL (parts list) for a 1020. Some info and partial service manual can be found in an Intertec Chain Saw manual 4th or 5th edition. The 4th edition is dated 1974 and the 5th dated 1976. Intertec also published a Homelite shop sevice manual and the 4th edition(1975) has the same info as the Intertec chain saw manual.
I would do a search on the forum for Homelite 1020 and see who owns one. Maybe an email to them will be fruitful.

Check and see if the UT number is still on it. That will narrow down the age. The IPL is easy to get. A dedicated service manual no. As Ray said the general manuals are your best bet.
