I missed out on a beautiful Stihl 044 on January 1st. The guy had it on CL, and I noticed it in about an hour of it's posting. He had the 044, and an 018 for $500. The 044 looked like it was bought and used for a tree or three and then stored. I asked him about a price on the 044 by itself and he came back with a price of $300. Told him I was on my way and jumped in the car. Half way there, the guy said that he had something come up and has been radio silent ever since. Guessing that someone either bought them both, or offered him a better price on the 044. I've been kicking myself over that saw for the last three days now.....I should have just told him that I'd take both of them and sold the 018 on my own.

Better hope your harvester chain doesn't break!

$24.99 EACH. And this isn't even the part with the rivets. He has another for $26.00 (but, hey, you get free shipping!)
I really hope that this is a misprint (e.g. a bag of ____ presets or tie straps)

A Tale of 2 eBay Transactions - Shipping and Handling

Maybe not typical, but interesting. I recently placed orders for a few small things from eBay. These occurred over the Christmas and New Year's holidays, and some weekend days, so I expected some delays. Both orders were for for items that would fit into a small, padded envelope, or small USPS Flat Rate box, and weighed under a pound.

Item #1 - Minnesota based company; shipped from South Carolina to Minnesota; UPS; $6.99 shipping charge; 11 days.

Item #2 - China based company; shipped from Guangdong, China to Minnesota; China Post; Free (to me) shipping; 9 days.

The UPS shipment bothered me because it could have gone USPS Flat Rate for less, with 2 day delivery - tracking showed that it waited in a few different warehouses for several days, almost like they were delaying it on purpose. The China delivery came in several days ahead of anticipated dates. I wish I could send/receive things to Canada like that!

That's the best I've seen from China. I ordered a small, high output, LED flash light not too long ago that took 35 days.

I have received other eBay items from China, with free shipping, in just 3-4 days.

That's fabulous. From what I've seen, your UPS delivery was a rare aberration. I hope so anyway. And China sent items have pretty good tracking data once they hit Chicago Customs.

Unfortunately, I have had this happen with UPS few times. I generally like them. But a couple of times when I have bought something with 'Free' or flat rate shipping, I have watched it sit for a few days in a warehouse somewhere via their tracker. Maybe there is some extra slow 'standby' type rate that they offer shippers at a lower cost?
