Newbie and looking to buy a 50-60cc saw (no brand loyalty, just looking for the best banger for the buck).

Hello all!
New guy from VA.
Have ran (not owned) many smaller consumer chainsaws poulan pro/husqvarna/no name brands over the years and am looking to finally get my own.

The way I picture it is to get a 50-60cc saw as the work horse (cutting up to 30" dia. tree max but mainly 10-20" dia. hardwoods), and get a smaller one for when limb-ing gets too hard with a larger saw.
I dont have many friends or family near me to try out their saws but they mostly run Stihl.

I've been scouring the internet/forums/youtube looking for what I believe to be the saw I want and think I have narrowed it down to the Echo CS-620PW or CS-4910, or the Huskie 460 Rancher.

I'm mainly going to use this for firewood, farm use, and the occasional cleanup after our annual hurricanes on the east coast.
If anyone could chime in on their recommendations of one over the other or a different saw, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Otherwise I think I've read enough about how good the CS-620 is.

590/620 and 4910/501 build quality is leaps and bounds ahead of a 460.

If you plan on running a 24” bar, you’ll want the bigger saw

620 with 16" and 24" bars will cover most bases. Add a 400 or 3510 if you need something smaller for branches and trimming and such. If I was starting all over in 2022, that's what I'd do.

Gonna buy the CS-620PW with a 24" Echo bar, looks like the bar is a two piece?
Interesting.

Any issue with purchasing from Home Depot vice a shop?
I get a 10% discount at HD that Im not sure I'll get elsewhere.

Is there anything else other than PPE (hat, goggles, gloves, boots) that you guys would recommend?
Im sure a stand alone repair/tool kit would be a must have. Maybe a spare chain or two?

I know theres plenty of mods to the exhaust port and what not that I've heard mentioned around here.

Im going to scour youtube and these forums for break-in on these 2 strokes.
I've got basic/little experience with 2 strokes and I'm sure I'll overanalyze this thing to death.
If you have any pointers and know what the tell tale signs of poor tuning (lean/rich gas air ratio), compression, timing, etc., I'm all ears and appreciate your time!

I think a 24 inch bar on the Echo 620 as your only bar is asking a bit much. A 20 inch on a 60cc saw is more realistic. Maybe an occasional 24 inch bar. But I am no expert.

I like Echo. I am loving the idea of a ported 4910; it would not cost a whole lot more than your price on a new 620 and you'll have the saw for decades. Now THAT might pull a 24 inch bar/chain.

EDIT: Echo runs a 15% sale annually and you might find such a sale in your area soon. I would rather buy from a dealer, not HD.

590 with the 20" from a dealer. When you need 24" , step up. But your second saw ought be a ripper, also echo, with a 14-16" so you can work longer and not get your ass kicked.

Spend the extra money and buy the 620 echo, out of the saws you mentioned .I hav 2 that it purchases last season that we run in a commercial firewood operation .I wanted to see how they would perform, they are great saws no problems at all. The saws have 24" bars ,run full chisel 3/8- 050 chain. I even took the rakers down more due to the torq the saws produce. I am impressed with the echos and they were cheaper than other makes/ models i usually buy.

Yeah we've got two shops here that sell/service ECHO, IDK if they take part in the 15% off sale day though.
Im interested in the 4910 too as its been a good saw as well from what ive heard. i was just thinking of having two saws a small and biggun to take care of a wide range of work/make it easier.

That small discount isn't worth to me buy from a big box store. We got our 590 and 310 back when they were doing 20% off at a Spring Open House special at a servicing dealer. We pull a 24" bar with the 590 just fine, they charged $10 to bump from the 20" to a 24". Our Echo dealer tests run every saw because they say they come from the factory running a bit lean.

Is your Home Depot discount a military discount by chance? If so, sawsuppliers.com offers a military discount and are awesome people. I bought a 620 with 24 in bar from them and it’s awesome. A buddy of mine bought the 590 and it’s also awesome and a bit cheaper - probably the best value. Shortly after I bought a 3510 and it’s a little ripper and ultra light. The two cover a large range of cutting tasks.

I’ve love the 4910 and really want a ported one but if you put one side by side with a 620, there is a massive difference in size. I don’t think the two are comparable.

Get the 4910 AND the 620. Might as well, only a matter of time until the CAD takes hold.

60cc cant handle a 24" very well so in my opinion is pointless saw to have compared to 18" 50cc set up.

To me it also appears for you a 24" saw wouldn't be needed all that often anyways so dont buy a 60cc just to appease the assee Syndrome

Get the 50cc 18" cut wood with it then go from there if you cut a bunch of 2ft and bigger trees leaving the 18" saw over worked then look into a real saw. Like a 572 462 etc, any flavour or color you like.

What are you cutting and what did you get your rakers down to? I run pretty easily a 28” bar with rakers at .025. I do have the oiler turned up fully, and now running thinner bar and chain oil. May some of you can tell me my problems. Saw cuts awesome and strong. I prefer it over my 272xp, but that might need more tweaking. Only issues in hardwood with bar burried is thinking that’s time to be running skip tooth as it’s making tons of chips. I haven’t tried out different lengths of bar or raker settings yet. Thanks.
