Thought I would try a chainsaw piston & cylinder rebuild for fun and experience. Found a Husky 55 on Craigs list, owner claimed top end needed rebuilt. Took home and found that it has good compression, good spark, clean saw, no gas to carb. Found rear plastic base plate striped out & front plate striped out ( for filter). Missing idle scew & spring. These are the two plastic plates before & after carb. The OEM #s are 503 89 80 & 501 76 26. Cant find these parts in a search or on Huskys part list. Are they still available? Saw is 1998 08111 254. Please advise. Paid 110.00$ Thank you Jeff!

Local dealer should have the parts, I would suggest replacing the intake boot and impluse grommet while you are already there. There are also plenty of parts on Ebay, make sure you get a intake plate that has the hole of the air injection. May want to check with some of the site sponsers like Chainsawr for used parts and Baileys for new. Being a 98 model there is chance your saw may have the rare-ish closed port top end.

Roanoker 494 How could I tell if it is the rare model closed port. I will tell you one thing that I have been smitten with buying, playing, fixing, collecting, saws. My women thinks I am crazy! I heat with wood approx 20 face cord year. Keeps me fit & out of doors!

The piston is what is really the "rare" part since there is no aftermarket and Husqvarna has not made them for several years, the cylinder can be had for a little of nothing.

There are a couple ways to tell if you have a closed port with the first being the saw would have been made between 1998 and 2000. The second way is the cylinder fins around the air injection tube, third is the numbers embossed on the cylinder lip behind the flywheel and finally would be a visual inspection of the inside of the cylinder.

Closed port cylinder is on the left with only the three bottom fins cut away. The open port on the right has all but the top three fins cut away.

The embossed numbers you are looking for are 44ZN15

Visual inspection through the plug hole, with the piston run all the way down, will reveal the type of porting. Looking at these pictures will show you the differences. With the closed port you will be able to see the closed transfers on each side.

EDIT:
Here is the thread where I rebuilt my Husqvarna 51 with a closed port 55 top end.

I have found you part number issue, all you have are the numbers off the parts themselves which are only partial. Here is a clip of the parts from the IPL.

I am also attaching the full IPL that anyone is welcome to download.

I have a 1998 Husky 55 apart right now and discovered there are two types of air filter set ups. Mine is the kind without the screw in the filter. So if you acquire parts, make sure you get the right ones.

I am waiting on a piston to arrive.

Oh, to the OP, if the cylinder and piston were shot on your saw, you probably paid too much. It appears that isn't the case though:) so you'll probable come out ok.

Roanoker saved my ass!

Thank you Roanoker494! Found & ordered the parts. I was confused by the #'s on the actual parts. You did save me by suggesting the grommet & intake tube replacement, air injection grommet was missing and would not have noticed without your direction. You have saved me time & frustration.Thank you again & this forum. -Jeff
