Ok everyone one of our fellow chainsaw loving members is in need of some help getting some firewood as he is still unable to do much do to an accident late last year. We are planning on having a GTG to help him replenish his wood for the rest of this year and get him started for next as well. The tentative date is set for Saturday March 2nd weather permitting at 9am. I know many of you love to do the GTG so lets do one to help one of our own. I will get in touch with the member to set up things and get you all the details as fast as I can. Please let me know who can help and what you have to bring for toys(as I like to call them). This will be located near Glenco Minnesota. Lets hear it on who can help.

I would be there too. I pray your GTG is great weather and accident-free.

I guess I'm in ;) Thanks guys!

Hi guys! Thanks!

I started this thread in the wood burning forum. http://www.arboristsite.com/firewood-heating-wood-burning-equipment/229326.htm

Here's the verbiage of that thread:

Hi guys. Many of you are following my wood cutting thread (see sig for link). I didn't get out as much as I could have or should have. Now, the wood supply is running low and I can't cut because I put a van in the ditch on Dec 7th and my back and neck haven't been the same since.

I hit ice and the van went on it's side down the bank of the ditch. When it got to the other side, it popped back on to it's wheels. Well, I was wearing my seat belt and that saved me from getting thrown out or banged and cut up. However, my lower back and neck took a beating because my hips were held stationary with the belt, but my upper body thrashed around a bit. I was able to walk away from it, thank God! I got a very expensive rough ride to the ER on a backboard and in a neck brace and found I have a compression fracture on my T12.

I'm getting better, but not in time to get some wood out of the woods. I can't do anything for very long. That includes using a saw, picking up firewood and splitting. I would make an excellent supervisor! Oh, I can drive. I can't pick up my little soon to be 5 year old who is ~ 40 lbs without paying for it later. I have no idea of when I'll be back to "normal"! (what ever that is! ) I hate being hurt!

A few guys have expressed interest in giving me a hand cutting and hauling. (thank you!) I know many hands make light(er) work. I was a little hesitant to start a thread on my behalf, but I decided to so guys could coordinated their efforts and have a mini wood cutting event. I do have a source for dead fall so the wood is there.

The sad part is the van I totaled wasn't mine! I was working on it for a friend and was bringing it back to him. Wind, ice, going too fast, and being rear wheel drive all contributed to things. The great thing is they're still our friends! However they're out of a van. I would like to replace it for them.

Thanks for reading and all of your positive comments so far in the other thread!

What length do you cut your firewood. I'll bring a pickup load with to get us/you started. Being in the tree biz and having 40 acres I'm not worried about not having enuf firewood for myself. Glad to help out anyway I can.

Looks like about 8 AS members so far if I can count the ones who have subscribed, plus a few friends of members.
Long range forecast is mid 20's with a hint of a flurry. I know way too far out to count on that but wishfull thinking.
I have a good friend in Chaska, not far from Glencoe has a 16ft dump trailer I'm sure we can add to the list of available equipment.

Looks like I need to talk to the guy that owns the land! Having a couple of guys come with me cutting is one thing. Having 6+, well, there'd be some explaining to do if I didn't talk to him in advance. Also, sounds like I need to ask him to show me the other grove he has that has dead fall in it.

He also had some trees removed so a poll barn could be put up. The trees are in a pile. Would that be something you'd be willing to tackle? How many good size trees do you guys think I should have selected? What is a realistic amount that can be cut, hauled, and split in say like 2-4 hours?

I really thank all of you that have indicated that you're coming!  Anyone bringing pie? :msp_mellow::hmm3grin2orange:

Good idea going to talk to the landowner and explain what you/we would like to do. Some are really laid back and some are down right fussy. Disrespecting him could get you kicked out permanently and you don't want a bad rap with the local farmers, that source of firewood could dry up real quick.
Tuff to say how much we can get cut up. Quite a bit i would imagine depending on the number of people there.
How much snow do you have down there?
The trees removed for the shed, are they "green" or were they dead standing? Is it something you would want to burn this season? They might be the easiest to get to but for that reason you might want to save those for this summer when your feeling up to cutting on your own.
