Just got a 111s sent to me. everything runs great. only a couple dumb things to correct from the previous owner. filled it up with mix and fired it right up. all seems good on that end. noticed however that there was a leak. first idea was just some overflow or some issue with a vent or whatever. sat it on some cardboard to help keep tabs on it. still holding some gas but the cardboard is soaked. any thoughts on this? if i can avoid a full teardown then great. if thats needed then ok. if theres some gunk for the tank awesome. if theres proven methods for the tank seam then i'd love to know about them..

thanks in advance.

not selling it.

Is is leaking from the case? You might have a bad case gasket. If it is leaking from the cap, replace the gasket.

A little experience up here in the cold north, if you tighten the cap during the day when it is warm the cap will leak when the temps drop off. :)

Where the handle mounts to the right side
they are prone to loosening and the fuel tank will become damaged And crack at the screw holes.

i'll poke at the bottom and see if i can isolate the spot. thanks for the direction of known problem areas.

if you've got good parts out there i'll surely consider them... i plan to use this saw.

PM me if needed, Mike.

leeha wins it. dried the bottom off. saw build up starting on the handle side. very likely in that area.

any suggestions? haven't "detanked" one of these boys before. is this a case for jb weld or some crap like that?

jb weld won't hold on a chainsaw tank very long, i would find another tank for it.

not even some of that cold solder stuff they sell in the plumbing section of the hardware store....

cause obviously people put mixed gas through their water pipes.

Your tank can be sealed.

This is what I use:

I just purchased a motorcycle fuel tank sealant kit. I'm going to seal the tank on my Husky 2100. The kit I have is enough to seal a 5 gal. tank so it will do several saws. It's a three step process, clean, etch, and seal. It has to dry between steps so it takes some time to complete. Once you open the epoxy sealant can it can't be closed back up, so it all must be used or the left over thrown away. I used the larger size kit on my aluminum boat fuel tanks, it's good stuff.
If you ship me your tank I'll seal it when I do mine.
Send me a pm if your interested.

looks good. i wonder if the tank will need to be removed in my situation where the leak is by the handle section... hmm. guess i'll go hunt down an ipl and see what i can find out about taking this apart.

got an ipl from magnus. wondering if i have to bother taking it all apart.. maybe just getting the line and filter out and then swishing the stuff. just make sure the line hole doesn't get filled in i'd assume.
