I bought this saw about a month ago from one of my buddies for $10. I looks terrible, but the compression is excellent. I have talked to Brad about removing the base gasket, but I don't know if I will now being that the compression is so high (170psi). It's going to take a few hours to clean all the crud off. The bar on it is a 28" NOS that I just bought. Anyone know how many 3/8" DL I need for this bar?

That saw will clean up nicely!

If you have the sufficient squish and choose to go gasketless, you'll likely have 190+ PSI. Mine is 200 if I recall. It'll run great reguardless and I doubt you'd be able to tell a lot of difference if that's all you did. I'll warn you though. Make sure your carb is in good order. A saw of this size, with that kind of compression, and no decomp? You better hope it's not too hard to start!:)

I may still remove the gasket because I am going to have to remove just about everthing on it anyway just clean off all the crud.

The guy that I got it from used it in his logging business. He has like 40 saws in a pile in the corner of his shop. This is about the nicest one that I could get away from him. He had a mint 10-10 with the righthand starter, but wouldn't sell. Most of that crud scrapes off easy, but it leaves behind a very oily surface. From the looks of it, the auto oiler works pretty well. I will probably diasssemble everything and degrease it all. Gas tank and oil tank are very clean and it also has spark.

dollar tree or dollar store

Pick up about a dozen bottles of "Totally awesome"
It is the best all purpose degreaser /cleaner I have ever used.

Wow, that is one hell of a deal.

I got a 925xl project, got an air filter and a fuel line for in the tank?

Wait until you attempt to install a gas line in it, you'll want to take a sledge to it. I've broken two so far. Lawnmower tech if you have fuel lines for .99 cents I'll take two. The fuel line is simply the worst I have ever worked on truly a bad design.:chainsaw:

Very nice catch! Congrats on those high comp numbers. With all the big homelites I have, I still don't have one of these. I think the revs will suprise you (for a saw of this vintage) on this saw once you get it going. Good luck.

$600 for a water pump? Sheesh, I hope that included Vaseline.

The 902AM I just got going has about the same specs and also has incredible compression. I haven't put the tester on it but it feels stronger than my 181SE which has 180 lbs. I'd also have to say that if the 181SE was still stock, the Homelite would probably outcut it. I was surprised.

calvin what kind of van is it and what motor is in it???

2004 chevy express 2500 6.0 liter 8 cylinder engine they told me they had to remove the front parts to gain access to the pump such as radiator etc. that there does take time i know that it is closed in area in that engine compartment its hard changing plugs in it also
