Got into a bit of a bidding war this morning on kijiji. Almost scored this for $60 bucks, but someone rolled in the driveway while I was looking at it, so I ended up throwing 160 at him. Looking at the plate it seems to be an 07 model if I am reading it correctly

Due to the rush I was in I bought it without any testing. Got home and gave it a compression test... It scored hilariously low at 70psi...

Looks like a rebuild is happening. Tomorrow I am going to pull the muffler and see what the piston and cylinder look like. I am still happy with the deal, especially in Canada

For starters just use a flat head screwdriver and pry the button out until it snaps. Push it in and pull it out a few times and twist it as your pulling outward on it. That's about all unless you completely remove it to clean and inspect.

Just went out and checked it, pulled it and it seems to be working fine, no change in the test results, still around 70-80lbs

Time to pull the muffler and take a peek. You'll either need a piston kit or just rings. Hopefully just rings because those Pistons are no less than $100.

Thats the plan. Away at school right now. Wont have access to a long enough alen key to pull the muffler off until tomorrow. Will update when I know more. Thanks for the help.

Well it seems like this is a bit less of a score than I was hoping...

Got the muffler off and things don't look good. I would say that the compression reading was accurate...

Guess I will pull the cylinder this weekend and see how bad the cylinder is. How much is aluminum transfer and how much is gouges..

Here is some pics of the whole unit. There was a couple chunks of blue wire all ripped to shreds in there. Anyone know where it came from. Ignition?

Continued trying to clean this thing a bit today. I have never seen a saw as dirty as this, and the dirt on it seems like a 1/4 in of pine gum.

Was going to pull the cylinder today but my Allen key set isn't long enough to reach through the cylinder, so tomorrow I am going to go out and buy some new keys as well as some muriatic acid to see how well I can clean this cylinder up

Well I got the cylinder as clean as i think possible. Ordered the parts monday, hopefully have them before the weekend so I can slap it together and see how it runs.

It is all together now. Smoked like a son of gun at first, may have been slightly too liberal on the pre-oil. Seems to be running good. Tomorrow I am going to throw a good bar and chain on it from my other saw and throw it through some wood and see what happens.

Saw looks good. Did you pressure test? If not she could melt down again.

Not yet, tester is for motorsports stuff, so its all too big. Gunna see if I can find a different adapter that will fit tomorrow. I listened for any signs of an air leak and didnt find any, So i am not too scared just yet. No climbing idle or anything. We will see what I can find tomorrow.
