Anyone have any bright Ideas on how to get some sort of plug to fit on to 1/4 inch line? I know there are poly couplers, not sure if they go down to 1/4 inch though. GOing to go adventuring at the hard ware stores tomorrow to see what i can find...

I use an old compression tester with the valve removed. The rubber hose that comes with the mityvac slips right on the end of the quick connect.

Well, good news and bad news.

The Good:

Passed the leakdown test, held 6psi no problem.

Saw starts and idles great, and cuts better than any saw I have owned.

The Bad:

After you really put her to work it has idle hang, not too sure what is going on. Not sure if it is the carb or engine related. I have a carb kit sitting in the shop. Gunna throw that in as soon as I have time. Will pull the muffler again to see what is going on too...

Also, it throws some sparks every now and then, not sure if they are coming from the muffler or the clutch/chain. The muffler has the screen in it and is completely stock. I noticed some contact with the bar plate, as it seems the outer felling dog kinda pushes it in a bit, but the contact is minor.

If you have any ideas on either of these points let me know. Otherwise I am gunna get back at it when I can. Have to finish replacing all the brake lines in my dads suburban tonight, and then the holiday rush starts for me tomorrow.

Bring this back up to the top...

Did a pressure test, passed with flying colours, 9lbs for 10 minutes. So, I think I am going to clean the carb and then see if the hanging idle will adjust out. I have a feeling I just have the L screw too far out and the T screw too far out as well. When adjusting it earlier I noticed it isnt like my husqvarna 61, It seems there is only about a 3/4 turn on each screw? What is a good starting point for this carb, it has the walbro one in it I believe

Just put a carb kit in it. Looks like the upper diaphragm was missing, it just had the screen and the gasket, as well as a good chunk of dirt. Have it running and adjusted to a relatively safe adjustment at the moment. Did a hot compression test on it, it only got around 125psi, concerningly low.

I may take the cylinder off again, try and clean it up a bit more and do a gasket delete and see where that gets me

Did you also vac test it. I had a 455 the other day passed a pressure test but failed the vac horribly on the seals

Hard to believe it's the same saw! It looked like it had been though a fire in the first pics....nice job cleaning it up!

The reason you have a limited amount you can adjust your jets is because the jets have limiters on them... (Thank the EPA).

This can be remedied fairly easily by pulling the carb and slicing the limiters off the jet caps with a razor blade held in vise grips and heated with a propane torch. (heat the razor blade) Shave them off and verify they don't catch or hang up, then enjoy all of the range of adjustment you need.

I just measured the squish on this saw, with some solder and my digital calipers it measured around 0.050" front and back. Does this seem right? I would have expected lower. That being said, a member local to me @caffeine1fg has a set up to mill this cylinder, so I may cut some off to try and salvage some life out of the cylinder and bring it above 130psi
