It's crazy what this rainy march weather will do to a guy. Picked up a 28" bar cheap from the classifieds here. As I've mentioned before in the Jred thread I thought it might be fun to try it out with some skip chain on the 630 as a "no stooping" bucking set up. No, I don't plan on burying it in anything big! Just bucking up "18 and under logs in the woods.
I've put the skip chain on it today and made three cuts in some poplar and it worked just fine except its hard to tell if the oiler is getting the lube all the way out that length because IT WON'T STOP RAINING! The main question is there an adjustable oiler on this saw. Not in the usual place underneath that my stihls are... Hope someone has some input.

Here's a pic. It actually is not as ridiculously nose heavy as I thought it would be!

Nevermind on the oiler question! Found the answer from a Cantdog post:

thing to check first is the oiler adjustment setting. It is slightly aft of the clutch drum and above the crankshaft centerline. It's the only screw you will find there that is for a flat blade screwdriver (scrench) It has four settings (1-4) with 4 being max oil output. You will have to remove the clutch/brake cover to acess this.

Thanks Cantdog! and the search function! (I really wanted to post a pic of the new bar too!)

LOL!! You're welcome........Man that is a long looking bar...nice...I know it's Jonsered badged but do you know who made it? Kinda looks like a Winsor...

...isn't it a really impractical set up for bucking firewood?
Not if it's small stuff and he doesn't want to bend over or kneel down.
I hate big logs for making firewood. 6" to 12" is nice.
To each his own.

I agree to both statements actually! For just bucking up one tree a long bar wouldn't be worth the effort to have that heavy of a saw, but my woods has been logged and I'm cutting up tops and smaller less desirable trees for the more desirable trees to reestablish.
I usually skid them out to the open with my quad in 10-15' sections and buck up 5or more at a time where I stack them or load 'em in the truck. I've learned from using my Dolmar with a 24" bar that its actually pretty quick and less stressful on the back to buck em up without stooping over on each cut. Especially in snowcover when you don't have to worry about dirt on the bottom side of the logs.

The other reason is that it justifies keeping my 630, as it performs just about the same as my stihl 361.(Or maybe it justifies me keeping the 361!) It's all good!
