If you were buying a new bar which would you get and why....Home owner use, couple of cords a year firewood.
Oregon power match....Oregon pro lite....

If its an older one I wouldn't care. Search some threads here. There some issues coming up with the new ones not holding up.

I have some of each. I'd go with pro lite. I've never needed to replace a tip, but I also run short bars and oilers all the way open.

The pro-lites are nice and light compared to the other and with proper bar maint' they will last a long time.

Pro lites are great bars, no need for a Powermatch for occasional woodcutting and it will be almost twice as much $$.

Dolmar 420.....16 and/or 18 inch bar. The 16 for fire wood. The 18 only for storm clean up, emergency only.

on a saw that small, definitely the pro-lite. powermatch bars weigh more and generally have a fatter profile. laminated bars are light, for small saws, and have a narrower slimmer profile to keep the weight down.

:agree2:

I've run the pro-lites up to 20" without any problems. I recommend the Powermatch for bars over 20" only for the reason that it's easy to get some sideways torque on a bar when cutting wood and I think the Powermatch would be more resistant to bending. Not that I intentionally try to bend my bars, but I've had some strange things happen while cutting fire wood.

For your application, I wouldn't hesitate to run a pro-lite unless you find a great deal on the Powermatch that is too good to pass up.

Go for the pro-lite, you can get them with the big tip so they are more useful when felling or getting out of trouble. And you'll save 10-15 bucks. If your cutting in the dirt and blowing out tips is common for you then get a powermatch.

There are no applications for the Dolmar PS-420 if you want a Power Match bar. For the Pro-Lite, 160GPEA041 or 160SPEA041. For the consumer Micro-Lite 180SDEA041.
