Tooling around the internet tonight, I found this item which might make loading those bigger rounds a little easier if you don't own large equipment:

It's a little pricey ($249+) but cheaper than a hernia. :)

A Harbor Freight 20% off coupon can be found many places. I see them on a one page ad in the back of a dirt bike magazine I read. It's good for a single non-sale item and is only good in-store, not online. Look around, I'm sure you'll find one elsewhere. You can usually order the item at the store, to be delivered to the store if it's a special order item.

You can find those coupons in the back of Readers Digest...

Shari, you could probably use that to get those rounds on your splitter.

Yeah, I thought of that but it's kind of pricey plus I think by the time I had the truck backed up to the splitter, using a lift gate like that, there wouldn't be much room left to work on a round. With my luck, a round would roll off and smash the back of my truck. :(

Do you split in the same spot every time?

You could mount your crane to a good concrete base, pick the logs out of the trailer and swing them over to the splitter.

Not always, but it is something I have thought of. The problem I do have is I can't bring a load home & then unload/split. I have to haul a load home, unload the trailer, stockpile the rounds, go back for more, unload/stockpile, etc. and then finally split later.

Shari, I have one of those lifts, works well. If you would drag your trailer up by my shop I will get you fixed up. The Jib crane idea does work but is slow and needs a winch on it, preferably powered as a hand crank is just to slow and to much messing around ( got t-shirt) that is in addition to the hydraulic cylinder lift portion - reason is it is hard to get enough height to load with if the boom is set short to swing into bed of truck. I am on the north side of Milw. shop phone 354-0707 Chris.
PS: got a lot of big boy toys to play with up here.

One thing you might want to consider if you have to drop a load before splitting it is build you a table to unload on.I have an elderly gent that I deliver unsplit rounds to,he likes to split his own.His biggest complaint was picking the stuff off the ground to get up to the splitter.here is what I did.

I built a table out of pressure treated 2x4's,4x4's for legs, and pressure treated 3/4 plywood.Built him a table 8x8 foot, and I back right up to the table and unload. You would be surprised how much that table will hold, most of my 16ft trailer got dumped on it.

When he splits, he rolls his splitter up to the table which happens to be about 6 inches lower than the table.Rolls the rounds off the table right on to the splitter without any lifting what so ever.He uses a short piece of 12 inch wide plank, rolls the rounds over, removes the plank and goes to splitting.Takes him a month to clear that table off, then he calls for more.

Something to consider....
