hi, i need some advice in regards to the restoration of an 07s that i have recently purchased. Initially i wanted to completly strip the saw and have it painted pall new again. After reading around a bit it seems it's more desirable to have the rustic original look. As you can see in the photos she's in reasonable condition for its age but i would like to bring it back to its original state. So what is best thing to do?
thanks jase

jase, Welcome to the forum, IMO I wouldn't paint yours, I painted mine because It was just plain ugly

Either way It's just a personal choice :)

well i might just give her a bit of a clean and tidy up. My muffler seems a bit different to most others it has an rectangular outlets is missing the louvered cover, also the starter prowls don't always bite in. Where can i get bits and prices like this and the emblem on the starter?

I've yet to get pics of mine finished. They're one of my favorite old Stihl saws. I love the swing open "hood".

I'm thinking the muffler cover will be the same as Contra /070/090, part # 1106 145 2900, these are still available new at your stihl dealer, and you can still get black handle hose( lots of info on this forum Re: fitting).....Have you pulled the starter off ? is the 07 starter a pawl type or friction shoe ?...........post up some pics when your resto is 90% complete and i'll send you a stihl emblem for the starter, not a new one, but a good clean one!:msp_wink:

thanks for the offer scallywag i might just take you up on it. The prawls seem to be in very good condition but the inside of the flywheel is a bit worn, can i machine out the steel inner section and press in a new one? Does anyone know if the colour of the saw was bit of a grey-white colour or pure white?
Thanks Jase

I don't have 07 IPL, so i'm only feeling my way here! Is the starter cup removable from the flywheel? If so, is there a inner steel starter ring or is the starter ring and cup cast as one piece?

RE: Paint colour, Check out Colorbond "Surfmist" it's Grey/White and just about spot on!!........and i'm pretty sure it comes in touch-up spray pack!
