I strip the paint off of my worn bars to clean up the looks of my saws occasionally. When I stripped my bar for the 562 I got some paint remover on the clutch cover.:bang: I decided to go ahead and just strip the cover and have it powder coated. Around here powder coating is very reasonable and it wears great. Anyway after getting it down to metal it turned out to look pretty good so my question is can I just leave it bare or do I need to powder coat? I think magnesium alloy can still corrode even if it doesn't rust but is it possible that the cover is aluminum? The picture shows how it looks now after 24 hours but with a photo shopped decal added.

Thanks Brad. I'll go with the powder but now that you mentioned it I may have it cleared rather than have it powdered black or grey.

Funny thing about getting it cleaned up, it started to polish out to something that looked chrome plated. I scuffed it back to a brushed look real fast.

Ohhhh I like the polished look. Do the visible areas of the wrap handle while you're at it. definitely.

Stihl orange is the worst paint I have ever tried to use! It takes probably a dozen coats to cover and doesn't even hint at any fuel resistance at all. I won't use it for anything.

That is likely true, I dont paint many saws. When I suggested using stihl paint I was suggesting a stihl part on a husky saw would be an upgrade to the saw.

Put a nice brushed finish on that sucker and get it color anodized, then give it a quick clear coat.
