Tachs for Saws

Looking a getting a tachometer for working on my saws. After making some mods I don't want to trash the saws. I search but could not find anything that was use full on the site. Most were from '03 and '04, so I'm sure the brands and availability have changed. Looked on e-bay and Baileys and found several different ones but wasn't sure of any pros or cons for certain brands. Any help would be appreciated.

The tach I use came from Bailey's. I can use the clip to clip it on the spark plug wire or just sit it on top of the saw and it gives the readings. It all depends on what your needing it for. If you just tuning the saw you can get the one with the aligator clip and be fine. If your using it on a saw that is milling, then you need to get one that you can set next to the saw and it will pick up the readings.

I placed an Internet order for a FAST-TACH to use on my chainsaws but just received a TECH-TACH TT-20K.

My original decision as to which one of the two was a close, but it seemed from comments here on AS that the FAST-TACH was a little more elegant for using on chainsaws. I know I'm probably splitting hairs here, but should I keep the TT-20K or or ask for the FAST-TACH? (I don't own any other tachometer.)

Pretty sure I bought my Fast Tach from E&E, less than a year ago. They aren't listed now, but I'd give them a call to see if they have any on the shelf.

No experience with the echo tach, can't comment on it.

For occasional use I use one of these cheap ($31) cycle tachs that someone posted here a few months back. If you really want to get crazy you can mount it right to the saw. :msp_thumbup:

The TT-20K has the fastest refresh rate if I'm not mistaken. I have TT-20K, Stihl EDT-2 EDT-5, Echo Pet-4000,Echo PET-1000 . Don't have a preference usually grab the EDT-5 just got used to grabbing it. Should be using the TT-20K.

I had both the Fast Tach and the TT 20K. Both work fine. Sold the 20K.
