Looks cool BUT...We had a dealer here a few years ago who went and cut a hemlock down and used the trunk to display his new Jonsereds. Bore cut them all in and the display was done. Then he pulled a saw out a week later and the bar and chain were rusted up good in the area that was inside the tree. Those trunks hold ALOT of moisture. Hardwoods are even worse. Think of how long cut and split oak takes to season! Dont want to see you ruin those bars. A long dead trunk would be safe.

Yup---120SI
The springer, he's on the lookout for squirels (always)
Joe, thanks for the heads-up on rusted bars, didn't think of that. I'll set it up in the shop in front of the modine heater for awhile. This time of year it runs almost constant

No prob. Im sure it will dry quick in front of the heater. Nice 120 too

Wow good thought. I love the idea though so maybe WD40 the bars and chains and check them frequently. Very appealing to a customer, I would have to make it work.

Way cool!

Hang some files and loops here and there for "tinsel".

I think just slather some oil on those bars and chains and they should be reasonably rustproof then. Or wipe some actual grease on them.

Looks nice. I have one that I made that is similar, and as mentioned- the log held moisture well for a few months (Ash). It dried soon enough, and made a nice display. Just check those bars and chains frequently, and WD40 wouldn't hurt. I used silicone spray and didn't have any problems.
