Why break the chain apart like that? You can just use a cut off wheel and remove every third cutter.

Bada$$ saw BTW!

Big T Double and I tried that - you end up with what I would call a double "T" haha skip ie. TWO open drivers instead of one. I did end up testing that chain here - http://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/404-vs-3-8-chain-test-stihl-661-w-28-tsumura.277489/

smoothest chain I've ever used. But it was slow for sure.

Whole lot of chain there.

that's what she said!

Cool video and great sounding saw. When cutting thick stuff like that I have found it much more effective to make use of the dogs as that length bar really is not well represented doing a strait down cookie cut. Using the dogs also is way easier on your body, especially your back.

I'm not sure why you had a problem with it. I use it a lot on 32-36 bars.

Well I blame Ted then cuz he's the one that was grinding on the chains!!! way to go lil t half!!! :dumb2:

I don't really have a problem with it. I'm just saying...

1. it's not bonafide semi skip/half skip...it's actually beyond full skip as you end up: left cutter, right cutter, open DL, open DL, left cutter, right cutter, open dl, open dl. and so on. You end up with 2 open DL's in a row.

Stihl half skip/semi skip = left cutter, right cutter, open dl, left cutter, right cutter, open dl and so on.

2. it's going to noodle very well for sure, as does full skip. But as you saw in the test it cut pretty slow, VERY SMOOTH, but pretty slow. That's due to the two open DL's in a row. Vs full skip which is left cutter, open DL, right cutter, open DL, left cutter, open dl right cutter.

I mean it's super smooth. But you can accomplish just as much noodling, and a lot more cutting, by just buying full skip.

If you want true half skip. Then just buy Stihl RSLH (square ground half skip) and round ground it if you want round cutters or leave it square.

I made the half skip for this video because Stihl doesn't make a semi skip half skip 404 chain. personally I think they should! :D If I didn't hit the copper wire in that wood 5 times, my hand made RS Half Skip chain would have won!!! :numberone:

start below video and go :36 into it...chain at :36 sec is half skip
chaain at :50 sec is grinding every 3rd..."double skip" ...two open DL's

Nice rig and demonstration/comparison. I really liked how your saw would slightly grunt then buckle back down and keep going in the cut. What a machine! I have one long bar, a 42 inch, and it's not light at all. I can only imagine what your Canon bar weighs. Do you know? Thanks for sharing. Max.

btw - TBrown owns this badass saw. He lives close to me and was nice enough to borrow it to me. Hedgerow sent me the bar... and I gladly sent it back after I was done! lol ...it's way cool but a PITA to do much of anything with...even 60" bar would be way better! The weight of the bar is soo far away from you, it makes the saw feel like it weighs a METRIC SH*T TON! (a unit of measurement standardized by Redbull660)

yeah Tree Monkey did a hell of a job porting it. Tons of torque to pull 404 RS full comp 72"...198 drivers!

weight = 14 lbs 8oz
overall length - 76"

Stock the saw would stall the chain with a 41" bar in soft maple. Now as you can see that isn't a problem. Stock it was embarrassing, not the case now.
