SuperSplit with 4-Way wedge

Finally in between birthday parties, swim lessons, changing diapers and kids naps I carved out some time to throw together a 4-way wedge for my supersplit. My hands are still tingling from all the grinding... but it was worth it. I fab'ed it up out of 1/4" flat bar and a piece of old plow cutting edge. I popped it on the splitter, cranked up the conveyor and splitter and had a cord split in no time.View attachment 216046 View attachment 216047

4 way

I don't use my four way on knotty Stuff it will sooner or later bend your splitter later. I have bent 2 of them before I learn my lesson. It would proble be ok if using it on straight grain wood. My splitter goes day day out year round. I only do Ash now and have no problem get some rock cherry different story. Later

I've been thinking about making something like that with old chipper blades. Nice job!

I did take video and will get it up soon. It came out kinda crappy with the sun and the conveyor kept jamming up with all the wood.
I had thought about using some old chipper knives as well, sure would have saved some grinding time but I was a bit concerned about the weldablility on the knives I have. I did rough in the angle of the wings with the plasma cutter.

CRThomas do you have a 4-way on a Supersplit? There difinitely is not alot of meat in SS stock wedge so felt I went with a conservative approatch and I'm well aware of the risk I'm taking. I only really planning on using it for fairly straight wood as it slides off for the nasty stuff.

First off I'll admit I don't know much about splitters.:confused2:

But isn't it kind of dangerous for the ram to continue moving without your hand on the lever making it continue? Just saying if anything ever happened, it would get real bad in a hurry.:eek2:

freakin' sweet. I'm going to have to see about getting my buddies old chipper blades to make one for the speedpro, hopefully the rack will hold up.

good fab job on that wedge...lol but the size you were splittin i'd leave whole for my wood pile..I made a 4 way for my splitter and use it on anything 16" round and up...sure does speed things up for sure....but great vid. and great design and welds...and i must admit i do love those SS...but for the stuff i get just not sure it could handle it...i'm getting stuff usually 15" and up all the way up to 45" on a reg. basses

Yeah I figured someone would mention not even splitting the size wood I'm splitting. I split for the market thats in the area and people love that they can pack their fireboxes full instead of only squeezing one piece in...

I can make great production time with 6"-24" x 16" rounds on the SS. It can split bigger but it is a PITA on most splitters and I can't make money at it unless I get it for free. I have split a 66" dia log on the SS just because... I have no video so I guess it didn't happen ;-)

Well that is the point. Once the lever is pulled, there is no turning back. And if your or someone else's hand was in the way, well it would be very bad.
