I need a 404 sprocket for my 090 G. My guy here can't get it. The handle's fixed but I still need the sprocket. I e-mailed Jeff S, but no answer yet.

Just put a .325 on it
I just got a large spline .325 9 tooth, for fun... may put a 10 inch bar on the 7900, 372 or 3120 and see what happens....
Also got a 9 tooth 3/8th that should work on the 7900 with a 16-20 bar, or same for the 3120....for races if nothing else.
The ehp 357 is pulling an 8 tooth 3/8 with ease--20 inch bar!!! Wait till she's broken in. There is no doubt that ED builds one FAST woods saw!!!!

Butch- if Jim doesn't have the part I have lots of NOS 090 drums, both in .404" and .500" pitch, and new drums for taking rim sprockets as well.

The 090G drum is different, the shaft is twice as long as a regular 090 drum, and the bearing is different too. I have several of both.

Did you ever get your sprocket ? I know one guy thought he had it but then realized ther was a difference between the 090 and the 090G, the next guy said he could make it but I do not think that ever materialized, and lastly another member was going to send you one. I sure hope you found one. As you might remeber I am also in need of a 090G .404 sprocket. I have talked with a couple machinists with little luck. Today I decided to stop by a local machine shop that has done work for us in the past at a good cost. He said in all honestly he was pretty busy (funny what a reasonable cost will do for business) but he thought he might be able to make a sproket/gear that would accept rims. The kicker is the cost would be over $200. This is more than I want to pay but I do not think he is trying to get rich. I just thought I would let you know I am still looking.

I would suggest that you contact Stihl in Germany and speak with someone in charge of production. They can most likely give you the contact information to the vendor that produced them. Contact the verdor and see if they can make a run of 50 parts. If they can put a few on your shelf and sell the rest on Ebay and Chainsaw Milling websites.

Does it look like it started out as two pieces and then fastened together? Like a spur sprocket that is made up of two pieces welded together. Does the groove have to be in the disc piece? How does it attach to the clutch drum to drive? How hard is it? Can you touch it with a file?

Hard as hammered hell.If I can find the picture,I will show one I made for an old gear drive Mac.Aha,I found it,the center one,hanging on the bar stud.This discussion has been ongoing for a while,but with no good results.It took me around 4 hrs[amateur machinist] then I had to take it to work,and have a toolmaker buddy of mine,grind,because I don't have a surface grinder.You could most likely whip one out in 10 or so minutes with a CNC machine.Oh yes,the rest of the questions.It's held on by a nut,on the output shaft,and it's around 55 to 60 Rockwell hard.
The 404 sprocket seems almost unattainable. Even if you locate or make one what if you need another? If the 404 sprocket has the same number of teeth as the 1/2 sprocket you may want to switch back to the 1/2" when all is said and done. 1/2" sprocket and chain is available so why not run the 1/2" ? A 100' of 1/2" chain went for $102.50 on ebay the other day.
