OK, the silence is deafening.

Fools wade in where wiser men fear to tread...

MacDaddy--I'll bite; what are you looking to get for the sprockets? I have no earthly idea what to offer. If the deal goes through I'd offer the sprockets to someone willing to machine new ones, & offer the new sprockets for a fair price. I'd want the original sprocket returned to me, along with one of the 'copies.' Does this sound reasonable? Unreasonable?

To play by the forum rules, these should be listed under used equipment.

I'm being serious.

When they leave my hands I dont care what happens to them You can PM me a offer and we can deal with emails or PMs I wont be back home until sunday afternoon
Thanks Mike

Excellent idea.

It takes me around 4 hrs to make a spur for a gear drive Mac,but someone could carve one out in a matter of minutes with a CNC mill ,once the program was written. This could be a nice little sideline for some interested party. What is nice about CNC machinery is the fact that any amount can be made at one time,1 to 50,000.No need to stock a bunch of finished product.I doubt anyone would get rich, just making sprockets, but it could be a nice supplement to an existing business.

Salutations,

You may find that machining an 090G sprocket to OE spec's is more daunting than you'd initially imagine. It makes more sense to adapt the 14mm keyed bore with a 7 tooth splined outer profile so it will accept rim sprockets of any available pitch, 3/8, .404, 1/2.

The other thing is, you wouldn't have a customer base for the new sprockets as the time involvment for manufacturing results in an egregiously cost prohibitive labor of love. Aside from the romanticism accompanying the 090G, you'd be money ahead to buy an 066/395

I suspect that none of this is ever

going to happen. I PMd an offer (yes, moderators, I broke an AS rule) which is probably way too low. Perhaps another AS member should try seeing this through. There's a lot of behind the scenes animosity happening here, with which I'm not familiar. I'm bowing out.

I have had two quotes on machining the sprockets. Neither was a workable situation. One was to build a rim drive system and one was to make a spur.

Al,

I have access to a CNC mill but writing the progarm is the problem.

Yea Beav, that was the solution I had also.I also thought about a harvester sprocket.,adaptation.I don't have an 090G,have never even seen one,so it was just a stab in the dark on my part.I also agree that few folks would be in the market for said item,as I doubt there are more than a few hundred of these old machines left, world wide.As I have said,I'm a fairly good machinist, but it takes about 4 hrs,for a McCulloch type, which is simple compared to the one the big Stihl takes,as the design of the relieved back portion of the spur. For my portion of this on going story is mainly just the concept, but it is an interesting one.I have figured out that the only surviving spurs seem to reside in one little town in California, where, most likely the 090g was a popular tool at one time. They appear, every so often for sale by several sellers, hmm, but I have never heard of anyone purchasing them.

I will take 45.00 for the 1/2 sproket to your door that is what I paid for it Also it is brand new
