I have had this 166 for about a year and now it's
time to fix it. It is in really nice shape but suffered
a bad lower rod bearing which damaged the piston
and cylinder. I now have all the parts for a complete
motor rebuild.

Here it is coming apart, One pic shows the lower
rod, Not sure if you can see the bearing but the crank
did get blue from heat.

Aw Lee,

I'm eating my heart out over here!

Yet another nice one, you are truly a blessed man.

You need to send one of those my way so I can give it a workout on my mill.

Sir how much was the worm gear puller for the 166?

Was the crank like that when you got it.

Thank you for the inside pictures.

In this set i pressed the bearing race off the crank
and installed the new one. I use a heat gun to heat
the new race and also put the crank in the BEER frig
for a half hour and the race slids right on. The cases
are clean and ready for assembly and some of the new
parts are laid out. It is a good used crank that i have
had for a while.

Sir I see in your pictures a wiseco piston box? Is that the 166 pistons you were having made up? How about a peek ;).

Is that puller a stihl part? Tommy has a drawer full of different size ones. Nice saw for a rebuild. Hope my 990 build turns out as nice.

From what I remember sachs had their own worm gear puller and special tools.

The crank is installed into one half. The cases are ready
to go together. Notice the line up studs i use, Makes the
cases go together nice and even without any damage to
the gasket. next the cases are together and the oil pump
drive gear installed.

I figured, but Lee's looks new so I thought mybe it was from a current manufacturer. If it is a new tool then that is a nice find for a guy that has 27 3/4 of these saws.

Sir lot of sachs tools can still be ordered through your dolmar dealer and are in stock. Just have the part number ready for them ;)

You can still get the tool, it is the same tool used on many models. I made my own using iron pipe fittings and a 2 jaw puller.

Take your dolmar ct ipl and get the tools list you want and part numbers and call your local dealer. Hopefully you have a dealer that will help you out.

And here is the part i have been waiting for.
I have been working with Wiseco pistons for
2 months getting a run of these made and they
arrived yesterday. These pistons are a high quality
forged piston that will with stand any abuse a chainsaw
can give them. Wiseco was the only option i had at
getting pistons for the 166 Dolmar.
