I figured, but Lee's looks new so I thought mybe it was from a current manufacturer. If it is a new tool then that is a nice find for a guy that has 27 3/4 of these saws.

Hoss, It is a Dolmar tool, Looks new because
i bought it new and have only used it a couple times.
You can still get tools right from Dolmar, There a bit
pricey. This tool is great, Not only doe's it remove but
it installs the gear in the correct location on the crank.

WOW! Very nice Lee. Appreciate the detail, and sharing with all of us!!!

Will this make 9 or 10 running 166's? Very jealous!

Sir how much was the worm gear puller for the 166?

Was the crank like that when you got it.

Thank you for the inside pictures.

The puller was around $60.00 from what i remember.
Was a while ago when i bought it.
The crank was toast when i got this saw. I'm guessing
this saw was used for milling. Crank go pretty hot on
the lower bearing area.

And here is the part i have been waiting for.
I have been working with Wiseco pistons for
2 months getting a run of these made and they
arrived yesterday. These pistons are a high quality
forged piston that will with stand any abuse a chainsaw
can give them. Wiseco was the only option i had at
getting pistons for the 166 Dolmar.

Lee

that's about the nicest piston I've seen...enough to make a machinist blush..... they're a deal at that price!!!

Lee- another great thread and rebuild on a classic saw. I had heard someone was having Wiseco pistons made for the 166. I assume they're using their standard 1mm rings? I agree with Nik, $155 for those is a good bargain.

So does that put the kibosh on the mo torture test???????????????

You da man!

Great write up and excellent pics. I hope someday when you get bored with all those beauties, you can find it in your heart to sell one. I will give it a good home, promise.

I have 54 feet of freshly milled shelves, need some nice stuff to fill them.

I bet 166s are like pretty girls and lays potato chips, ya can't have just one!

Yeah,

where does Lee find these things, I look everywhere for Big Dolmars. (apparently not everywhere)

Lee has the Midas touch on big saws, more power to ya Man!

Here's a video with the 166 i rebuilt with
the Wiseco piston and the saw on the right
is the one i recieved yesterday. Not the best
video. I will still need to do some carb tuning.

Thanks taking the time to video....nice

Unless I missed something ....that makes 11 runners ?....Dayym :)

Understand Wiseco is a quality product.....just interested in some of the
production info.

!/ How do the weights of the pistons compare ? Wiseco vs KS (? )
2/ turned or cast?
3/Alloy used ?
.................................me thinks of you as Yoda 166 :)
me Grasshopper.

Man,

If the cackle of those 166s doesn't do something to ya, you aint a true motorhead.

That piston looks top quality.

Good thread, I've enjoyed it very much.

Mr. HE:cool:

These will be the last 2 pic's.
Ran over a half tank of fuel and a few
heat cycles before the video. I removed
the muffler and the piston looks perfect.
I'm sure it will run stronger the more i
run it.

Thanks everyone for taking an interest in this thread.
This saw was a joy to work on, very easy and straight
forward.

I see somebody is keeping track!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know how the stock and Wiseco piston
compair in weight, I would have thought Wiseco
would have made them the same. I'm going to
call them and find out. Good question.

They are a forged piston versus oem was cast.
Then there machined from there.
