i have a perfect cheap project for any builder interested in a challenge.
lets do the Poulan WildThing woods port competition.. this has been talked about before!

proposed rules:
no 2pc heads
stock appearing
Must run on street legal pump gas with no nitro or other additives.
times will be done by video or other outside party.
3 cut hot start.

Well, the "buy in" would be cheap anyway. I'd do it, but I don't know that much about modding 2 strokes, and I just used up my last can of "turd polish". I'm out. You guys, knock yourselves out.

Sounds fun, but there are too many variables...bar length, chain pitch, type of wood and diameter...the list goes on.

I am in, You have to include Craftsmans and send me a chunk of that soft stuff that Y'all cut in your videos. I only have oak and hickory.
I have a fast one.

oh come on, its not a money race its a "oh what the heck" deal :)
besides i am allready at a disadvantage. that bar/chain is my root cutting rig.
that chain has cut roots burried in sand, clay, dirt. and its great to carry around in the truck.. if somebody steals it, no big loss. now they get to deal with the poulan issues and sore arm from pulling the rope a million times to start it!

daemon, looks like you qualify, if anybody is going to Placerville.. could have an after the show wildthing class.. LOL

This sounds cool, if I knew what the hell I were doing Id be all over it like a cheap suit on a shotgun groom.

I do think to keep it fair a stock out of the box(or off the roll) chain should be designated for every saw.

how about this, open to all homeowner cheapo saws of 44cc or less. the wild thing is 40. rupedoggy has offered to let us run this class at the placerville competition so this could get real interesting! chain must be unaltered off the roll or out of the box. no race chain. we are going for best woods port here, not best race chain.

I did a muffler mod on one of the mild things! It made it sound really good but i don't know about any power increase! I put twin stingers out the side of the exhaust! They came from some sort of shell from the gun range down the road! Bigger than 30/30..I used the big end of the shells, drilled all the baffle holes up 2 sizes(drill bit). Sounds really mean!

I have wanted to do this for the longest time. unfortunateley I am on the other coast. I think you should allow a chain to be sharpened but not thinned and so on. Also I don't believe the factory stock chain has the rakers set low enough. this is by no means race technology but just good maintenance. Of course I am not in this race so I guess I can't really help with the rules

have fun
buck

buck: hmm i think rakers can be lowered. chain may be touch up sharpened but must have most of its tooth. video entries are welcome.

OK, as an added incentive (and to makeup for starting with rules)

I hereby offer to cut the losing Wildthing in half with my SXL-925 and forward the video to someone to post for everyones viewing pleasure!

Deal?

I would love to see a wild thing class, preferably with the fuel provided, catch on nationwide. I can't afford to experiment on $1200.00 saws, and most of the folks I know can't either. It would be another class for the spectators to watch, and maybe identify with their Wal-Mart saws. It would provide a forum to new builders, and another event for us to mess around with. It should be easy, with no nitro to fool around with so there is no messy purging. It would be great for beginners just entering the sport who can't swing a $7,000 Rotex. Keep the prize money low to encourage shows to include it, and to perhaps discourage cheating.

Its tough to regulate the filing angles, just say must use .325 chains with no chassis modifications. The good filers will always have an advantage, unless the chain is provided, and that could get costly.

That's why they run stock saw classes or saw supplied classes
