I swear this is the final porting:pumpkin2:

I decided to do a mild job on the transfers. Actually, only the two rear closest to the intake. Only blended about 1.5mm. Not a large margin, but I think it will flow better and cool the piston better too. Besides, if this Southern Cal GTG happens, I have to bring my A game. The piston looked almost immaculate. So I didn't even bother.

stock: What's up with the casting on that little transfer!!! Not cool man.

I worked the exhuast roof just a little to try and bring it back to stock numbers. Not much was done. ATDC also was a bit too high for my taste. I compensated for the gasketless too.

No gasket this time around. I used permatex copper spray.

Fire in the hole tomorrow.

Al, I think it's going to work out. I couldn't take a better picture.

The gasket's (paper materials) I have sprayed with this "permatex copper spray a gasket" have hardened. I've taken both the 64 and 51 apart a couple of times each and have never torn the gaskets. As thin as they are too!!! It hardens with the heat of the jug (OOOOOOOOOOOOH!)

It's the 5100. This will be the last time I take it apart. I hope it lasts a couple of years of hard core abuse. I've been using it as my brush saw. The sound is just too awesome. I can't wait to hit the trigger, it's infectious:hmm3grin2orange:

I'll be squaring that port tomorrow. I just noticed it when I posted this thread.

Later Al.

Thank you Wiggs. I'm trying to go for velocity for now. If it's still together in a couple of years, then I'll try out a wider port towards the intake for a bigger charge. See if I can feel a difference.

A vid for sure!

Exactly Al. I did not want any of that stuff to get into the crank case. I figured the spray gasket was the way to go.

Before pulling it apart, the squish measure .020. And that was with a .003 gasket. I hope it can handle the .017 squish. We'll see.

EDIT: Forgot to post this picture. I forget who mentioned it in a thread recently, but these files work great to smooth out the mouth of the port from little ridges. This Stihl file cuts crazy. It does an awesome job. It helps when you're close. Too much dremel sometimes is not good.

God I hat dial up, it's taken forever for the pictures to load.

Looking good Rickster.

ADSL here I come....

Rick Rock, thank you hermano. I was looking forward to the spray gasket. Actually, the squish will probably read about .018 which will make it a little safer for the hot rod. It spins the stock rpm's super quick. .017 was getting me a bit nervous.

Hi Amigo,
That little ripper is really going to sing now!
Best wishes,
Bob

Hola amigo! Long time no see hometown. Good to have you back. Bob, I never had the balls to touch the transfers until I came across this little dude. It worked perfect to widen the transfer using a dremel. The fiber discs made me too nervous. This little bad boy took me hand shakes away:clap:

Rick- you have a good eye for detail. I like the way that cylinder turned out. I hope to make your GTG, even if I'm working a big fire nearby.

You too Jacob. It's good to have you back too. I miss reading your posts. I'm trying to conduct my work in a professional manner. I'm almost a perfectionist. Which helps. I see a sore spot and I have to fix it. Like the little transfer Al picked up on. The other transfers are not square too. I never noticed that before as I never even bothered with them.

I'm off to the studio soon to square those transfers, maybe just round them. Hopefully I'll have a vid this afternoon sometime. I have to build a cant. LOL. I only have 2x4's, so it will have to be a temporary cant.

EDIT: Jacob, I forgot to mention the fires tore up Angeles National Forest pretty good. And it's only 65% contained. I'm sad as fudge right now.:censored: It would be cool to have you here at the GTG if it happens:clap:

Looking good. Definately bring those transfers back on around some more. Just watch out for your ring ends on a two ring piston. BTW, .017" on the squish is nothing to be concerned with. I've had that on a 066BB, but that was only because that's what it was with a gasket. My 260 is at .016 and turns above 17K, so you're good to go.

Thank you for sharing your work. I would have guessed the squish on your hot rod 260 would have been around .012. I've read about 260's running that squish. Your saw has some more potential. That's a good deal.

Here is the final porting, for now. I would like to widen them, but I want to go in stages to see if and how much it improves. I can't work the longer transfer on the left side. It has a sever angle on it and I would probably have to remove a bit to give it a round edge. I'm cool as is.

Al, this is the best I could do with that corner that was casted bad.

I don't know if you could go that far or not. I have heard of going down to maybe .014, but at that point, I'd want to be using a cermic coating on the crown of the piston.

Hey man, looking good. Do you have any pics of the transfer when it was stock? I'm just curious to see how much the shape has changed from stock.

So what is your final squish as of now? Can't wait to see that beast in action!!

There E is. What's up Frank?

I'll look thru the library to see if I can find a picture. I should have one.

Just what I anticipated.

Another hail mary I threw hoping for one of the AS'rs to catch:greenchainsaw:. A little squish to make sure it's sealed. From what I could see, it was sealed as is. Anticipating this, I tried spraying more on the outer edges hoping to limit the damage inside.

Sorry fellas, might not get to cut today. I took a siesta and never looked back. I'll try my best to jam on the cant stand. How do I make one:dunno: Off to see some pics for reference. I got rid of the craftsman table:monkey:

EDIT: ATDC = 97º +- Put a smile on my face this wide:clap:

Copa Mundo Golaso!

While I was priming the carb, I could feel that it will take a tank or so to get the compression back. It was easy to turn over as expected.

It felt awesome up top. Now I expect it to deliver and distort my senses. The seperations were clear, fast, and strong sounding. I can hear a super charged sound now like the 6401. Cool beans. Yeah, I dug the dirt:monkey:

Sorry folks, but it's World Cup qualies now.
