POS Craftsman, or bulletproof Echo?

My 'new' saw arrived today. FdX very kindly

left it unattended on my front porch; glad that I left work early.

I figure that this Craftsman is a relabelled Echo. I'd certainly appreciate knowing which Echo/Kiorwitz model it is. Thanks in advance for your help!

Chris, Its not an Echo. The Echo/Kioritz model numbers start with 271...Bob

And to think that I spent so much time looking at Echos on Mike Acres site. Guess that I've got more research in my near future (specs, IPLs, etc).

Bob: In my ignorance, I thought that this was a relabelled Echo. I've only had time to do some quick research here at AS. Out of courosity, what years/time span would be considerred Echo's 'heyday?' BTW I've always felt that Echos were unfairly looked down on.

Mike Mass: My superficial research here at AS suggests that the HL 450 is a solid saw that would benefit from a fully adjustable carb from a HL 550. Anyone care to confirm or refute this thought?

I'll say this: This saw is certainly heavy, & I'd say that it needs a decomp valve. But what do I know....?

Chris, One giveaway that i see right off that its not an Echo, is the bolts that hold the rope side cover on. Echo used allen head bolts. I think the late 1970's early 80's Echo's were the best. The orange ones. I am not up on the newer ones. But i would like an 8000 or a 1201....Bob

Does any one have a parts list for the Craftsman 4.5, or Homelite 450? Or know of site where I can obtain one? I'm also trying to find out the correct model # for the Walbro SDC carb that goes on the Homelite 550; I'd like a FAC, & apparantly the carb from the 550 should be it.

I went to Sears.com, but I couldn't remember how to get into the PL archive. I know that about a year?? ago I managed to find & down load a very detailed David Bradley PL.

I think that is the site where you can enter the model number and should find something. I've got a sears saw around 1972 model no and it still has the breakdown.

Thanks, Gumneck. I'll try the site later today (it's now after 2am CT). I'll also find the David Bradley manual that I downloaded/printed, & see if that helps any. Previously, when I managed to find/get into the site, I was rather amazed at their archive.

Thanks to Ray Benson for providing both the Walbro SDC & the HL 550 carb part #s.

This red & black saw fits in nicely with my other red & black saws. I don't that my wife noticed :Eye: it over the weekend

Was finally able to get into acresinternet.com, & download the IPL. A big thanks to Mike Acres & the folks at CSCC.

The carb from the 550 is Walbro SDC-69a, Homelite A-93964-A or A-93964-b. I don't yet know what difference(s) there might be between a & b.

if that saw was sold when sears was called searsan roebuck. the homelites were quality machines at that time . at least the one i had [super xl] was. had manual oiler but was totally bullet proof. just a thought . good luck.
ps mine was the old blue saw tho. dont know if that may have been there pro type saws or not.. but she never did break. just found newer saws with oilers an such. i had a chance to buy 3 of these saw recently for a hundred but opted out because ive about quit selling saws.there gone now tho in case anyone was going to see if i could gettum.
