I am rebuilding the oil pump on a Stihl 009 and I can't figure out where the small C-clip (center of picture) goes. Did I pick up a "stray part"? Any ideas?

It doesn't appear on the parts blowups, so I have always assumed it was
just used to hold the oil pump together at the factory until it got put on the
saw. Put the pump together and you will see what I mean.

I just repaced the diaphram and that was it. I couldn't figure out how to get the pump apart, it looked like it was pressed together and I didn't want to force it. Before I repalced the diaphram it wouldn't pump, now it does and then some. There was no C clip.

the clip holds the cylinder and the cover together prior to installing the screws. just fits over a small post that protrudes through cover
