Hey, I have an older Stihl 025 that's seen a lot of hours but is in excellent condition with regards to spark, compression and power. It's got a few minor issues though so I'd hate to drop big bucks on it, especially after I just did that on the new MS390.... but I found a guy that has a blown 026. If I can rob parts from that saw, specifically the carburetor and handle will they work? Another possibility...swap the good engine from the 025 to the 026...will it work? I don't know but somebody here is bound to. Thanks for your help,
J.D.

They are completely different engines, that happen to have similar displacements. Their construction is entirely different. The carb might work, and the handle(front?) might be able to be jimmy rigged to work, but I doubt you will find much more you can use from the 026 on the 025. A better bet would be to buy the 026 and fix it if its in decent shape, than trying to make one frankensaw out of 2 different models.

Ok, fair enough I thought they might be similar with the exception of the higher quality of the 26 engine and standard motor mount...what is your opinion on the carb? Compatible?

I m not entirely sure as to what carbs are used on either, others should be able to help more than I can, but I would suspect they are similar size and models that may be able to be retrofitted from one saw to the other, and then adjusted for the saw they are on.

I believe 026 piston and cylinder kits were for sale on Ebay for like $50. get one of those, rebuild the 026, and use it.
